I'm trauma dumping, as they say. I work at Amazon, and they do just enough so they won't get sued. So I needed to take off because my medical condition was putting me in danger to work and also harming my rate. I've taken off multiple times this year and understand how they do leaves, short term disability and accommodations. They'll cover the leave until the modified accommodations are active or until the leave is finished. They'll also pay short term leave based on how long it takes to recover from the illness. However, if you need accommodations to come back to work and it's passed your leave date, they'll push back your return date but any days after your original leave date is unpaid. Accommodations can take 1 week to 2. Sometimes if they can't accommodate you they'll put you back on unpaid leave and say you can't come to work without a release form from your doctor. Not any form is acceptable. They will only accept their form if you're out over a week. Now the next problem was Amazon reconstructing and getting rid of my schedule. HR was denying approved schedules, sending out schedules people didn't want and telling people to sign it or you'll be up for termination. I signed it and asked when I should put in my leave for my medical issue. HR told me to make the case after the system switched my schedule. During the 2 weeks it took to switch over, I used my time to cover the remainder of the shift
I could not work. I put in my leave & put in enough time to cover accommodations too. I gave it to my specialist first & confirmed, she was in the office at least twice. However, I just got the paper back 1 day before my leave ends and Amazon is only covering half of my leave because I'm not totally impaired to work on modified duty. But the Dr wrote the day she 1st asked for my accommodation (a month ago) and not the day she signed the papers. (yesterday) And it take 3 days to open an accommodation case because they aren't in the same department.

It sounds incredibly frustrating to handle such bureaucratic challenges, particularly with your existing medical condition. Balancing personal health needs with workplace protocols can be taxing. I've found that clear communication with HR, documenting all interactions, and consulting legal support if necessary, can be essential steps in navigating such situations. Working with healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate document submissions is crucial. Prioritize your health, and consider discussing options with a mentor or advisor who might offer additional perspective or solutions in dealing with your employer's regulations.
