Yes and no. The current trend is to use AI to make more stuff with AI. Given we could barely get LLMs to say what colour grass is six years ago and today it is solving one hour theoretical math without flaws in seconds it is safe to say progress has happened.

Either progress keeps happening in which case AI will be a tool everyone works with. Much like google is now. Or it stops, in which case we will tailor and specialize it for specific tasks.

If I were to give anyone still studying advice I would probably suggest working on their social and leadership skills. Even today social skills are rated higher than actual competence in most, not all, professions. If AI keeps evolving it will outperform us and so figuratively kissing ass is going to be the most sought after professional ability.
