i think part (only a portion, definitely not all) of the hysteria is designed achieve exactly that. Upon convincing people that AI dominance is inevitable, they start to adjust to profit from AI, effectively being recruited to facilitate what they are afraid of. ㅤ

It will take over jobs. It already has. This has happened with technical innovations for centuries. The goal of most innovations is to make things easier, which means less people are needed to do the same task. But after hundreds or thousands of inventions that made things easier to do, people still work. They just get more done in the same time, or they do something else.

I've been on both ends of this. I've done design work on machines that greatly reduced the labor needed for tasks. Those people just did something else, including learning to run the new machines.

I have also seen computers do what I used to do manually by hand. It means much less labor needed to do the same thing, especially with the more repetitious stuff. But it also meant we could do things far more complex than we could before.

I understand the frustration; I felt similar resistance when spreadsheets and the internet were “overhyped” in the 90s.

A few things from what I’ve seen in careers:

- AI won’t replace *all* jobs, but it’s already replacing *tasks*: support tickets, document summaries, basic coding, simple legal drafts, marketing copy.
- Jobs most at risk: repetitive, rules-based, high-volume work.
- Jobs that’ll grow: those needing deep judgment, trust, creativity, complex coordination, and hands-on presence.

The real shift: one person with AI will often outperform several people without it. Learning to *use* AI is the safest career move.

Things are going to get easier. For example, in software, it allows us to handle standard tasks faster and more efficiently with fewer people. Many jobs won't disappear completely, but I believe the required workforce will decrease. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if unemployment rates top 50% in the future.
