School is basically a babysitting service to get more women into the work force to make labor cheaper. Notice how now it takes two incomes for most folks to get by whereas before it wasn't the case. A lot of women in the workforce dont have the choice to be stay at home mothers and often have to work until they are 30 or over until they and their husbands can afford to have a child.

• Far from educating young kids school was sent up to prepare kids for a factory or office job where they are on a clock. Thats why bells, punctuality and attendance is more important to schools than actual learning, in other words you might be failing math but thats ok as long as you show up on time 5 days per week. The only kids that learn at school and the most intelligent and of course the school pays most attention to these because they show how great the school is as an educational facility and because it requires zero effort to teach these kids, basically they learn themselves.

School also serves the government to indoctrinate kids with whatever political agenda they deem important. Whether it be today's woke politics or in the past getting kids to join the military.

This is why so many parents are home schooling. I mean if kids are barely litterate and can't do basic maths then why send them to school at all.

Since you are young, I am going to give you a quick, but likely insufficient, history lesson.

In short, the reason for two incomes to survive now is ultimately due to a growing income gap that has been steadily growing since the Reagan Administration. Before Reagan, taxation and regulation was such that many families could get by on a single income. But, two things happened:
1. Once the GOP got in power with Reagan, "government was the problem" was the mantra, so there was lots of deregulation and tax cuts and union-busting. This began the trend of the rich getting richer but everyone else getting fucked.
2. The rise of productivity due to three related things:
A) the personal computer - in particular, when IBM released the PC in 1981.
B) the Internet becoming public in 1993.
C) the rise of outsourcing jobs.
Outsourcing became easier with the Internet so now that jobs that would be done by Americans are now done in India or China or elsewhere much cheaper. So, the rich get richer.
The increase in productivity due to the PC and the web is no one's fault but it once again led to the rich getting richer. Perhaps rightfully so, but nonetheless. It is not anyone's personal responsibility to keep people employed, but it is societies...

And, in a way, that's exactly what government is supposed to do: insane stuff to keep everything running smoothly. For instance, conservatives are obsessed about the US debt and I won't say they are wrong about that. But, at the same time, without the US being in debt, then the US won't sell bonds and such to put itself in debt. That eliminates a huge source of investing since, ultimately, many borrowers get their money from banks who get loans from the Federal Government.

But, I am getting off-track...
In short, the income gap has caused a concentration of wealth to the wealthy. When that happens, that's like clogging the arteries of an economy. A healthy economy - like one in which a family doesn't need two incomes to survive - requires the money to be constantly moving which means everyone needs to have sufficient income to survive and spend and get the economy running. Unfortunately, GOP policies usually do the opposite.

I could see the shitshow we are in was going to happen over 40 years ago. I noticed this growing income gap and what it meant in the long run. For this and other reasons, I deliberately chose not to have kids; my kids are safe from this shitshow created by the GOP for 45 years.

I want to leave you with one last thing...
School is a lot more than just the shit they teach you. It is socialization meaning you learn about human nature and having to get along with others and respect of authority. Homeschooling doesn't do that. Kids may get a decent safe education at home, but they are not getting that other social education that is just as important to survive in the real world.

You are probably right about most of that but my only criticism is that like most Americans you dont see past the 50 US states. This is happening everywhere, Canada, Australia, new Zealand, Britain, Ireland, Europe. Even Germany which was probably the best country to live in anywhere in the world up until maybe 2012 has seen a sharp decline in wages, limping standards and education standards.

I'll ask the question as someone living in the USA... if the average American has a 6th grade reading level, and a 9% numeracy rate (that's how good you are with numbers and understand basic math), and understands science at about 6.5 grade level, and is unaware that most of what they learned in American History is white-washed bullshit... how are they skilled enough to teach a child?

They are NOT, and the people pushing for home schooling are well aware of this. What P-2025 wants from the next generation is a bunch of indoctrinated, groomed, non-critical thinkers who can, at best, learn some trade skills and do manual labor. That's the plan, kiddos.

Do you actually ask "which part of history is white-washed"? Virtually all of it in the USA. Every textbook is controlled or published by organizations connected with the Rockefeller, Carnegie or similar foundations. They decided long ago what you're allowed to learn about history.

You're from the UK. You weren't schooled here, and I do NOT have the time, energy or inclination to school you. There are dozens of books on the "real" history of the United States. They're easy to find, just look on the "banned" list in the red states. You could start with "Black AF" and "The Untold History of the United States. (Just curious, are you going to tell me next that the British were a kind and benevolent group of colonizers too?)

"Most" blue collar jobs require a lot of apprenticeship and the ability to pay attention to details. But you don't get to be the ones who design an electrical grid for a city unless you've got advanced training and can think critically. You don't have to go to school for years and pass your boards, like you do if you want to be a nurse or medical professional. There's already a shortage of that. And for teachers, some states will hire ANYBODY with 2 years of college with no specific training in education. Why? Because not only does the pay suck, but unless you're already indoctrinated into the bullshit, you wake up usually when you're in college and realize you won't teach that crap.

History is available for anyone to read up on and is not relevant when compared to maths, English, science. I know because I did very well in history but what good is a history degree to anyone unless you are going to teach history or work in a museum.

there's also the bullying, gang culture and school shootings/stabbings. You sent your kids to school thinking theyd be safe. I grew up in Britain where school bullying & gang culture was a serious issue. A girl in my class hung herself after some girls were bullying her. Boys were getting stabbed and sucked into gang culture. There was often violence in the school and one teacher was badly beaten by a thug because she told him to leave the class. Then there were the rape gangs outside the gates, of course the gangs had a relative attending the school. School authorities, local politicians and police ignored it all and made the usual statements when something bad happened. My parents tried to get me transferred out because I was refusing to go because of the bullying and of course the school was fining my parents fof me being absent but i couldn't get transferred to a better school. It was what we call a real postcode lottery. So they started homeschooling me at home. It worked out well.

My kids graduated from high school at the very tail end of when a high school education demanded certain basic skills. If they were in public school today I would be sending them to a private school or teaching them myself.

It's not just about education and gaining knowledge. Kids and teenagers should be around other kids and teenagers. These relationships are the ones that will probably last a lifetime.

I know parents who are very wealthy, but at the same time down to earth. They have a realistic and practical view. This mother told us she could send her daughter to the best international schools, but she opted for the public school system, so her daughter could be with kids from all backgrounds.

I'd rather have my kid grow up with a realistic sense of what the world is like.
