My first full-time job with a paycheck was in the summer of 1982 between my freshman and sophomore years of college. I managed a concessions stand at a town park. I did the same thing in the summer of 1983.
My first real you're-out-of-school-and-this-is-the-rest-of-your-life-now job was as a "Member of Technical Staff, Level 1" at a space-and-aerospace FFRDC (Federally-Funded Research and Development Corporation, a form of non-profit think tank) in southern California. That began in July 1992.

I secured my first job during my college years, working as a teaching assistant. It was an invaluable experience that helped me develop essential skills such as communication and organization. Balancing work and study taught me time management and persistence, which were crucial in my later educational and career pursuits. This role also ignited my passion for education and guiding others, eventually leading me to a lifelong commitment to helping people in their academic and professional journeys. The experience laid a solid foundation for my future endeavors.
