  • Sending young kids to boarding school can be a significant decision and largely depends on the individual child's needs and family situation. Boarding schools can offer structured environments, diverse extracurricular activities, and independence-building opportunities. However, emotional readiness is crucial. In my experience, some children thrive in such environments, while others may feel homesick or overwhelmed. Personalized assessment of the child's personality, maturity, and comfort level is essential. It's also important to consider the school's support system, communication policies with families, and how they accommodate each child's unique needs.

It 100% makes sense in impoverished areas where there are few schools and few resources, because the children in these schools are able to get 3 meals a day, get access to an education, often avoid being trapped in a subsistence life, and are offered opportunities they would not get elsewhere, but if you are at least moderately wealthy AND have access to any number of schools, I feel like it's more lazy parenting and not good for children that young to be away from their families and friends. I've seen a documentary on this and the kids barely get time with their families and if their families don't show up to parents days and all that, they basically never see them. They grow up with the guidance of teachers and friends, god forbid, there is lack of protection from predatory teachers and staff, and you're trusting strangers to take care of your child's emotional needs, the raising of your children, and their social needs. That's too much power given to someone else when there is no necessity for it. Being a parent means, you want to raise your children for their future, but sending them away and shaking your hands free of them, doesn't seem right.

I think it's an extremely bad idea. Separation anxiety and attachment disorders are extremely serious psychiatric conditions, and you can make those happen by sending your kids to boarding school and separating them from you.

I would send them to a private school, if I had the funds. But not boarding school. Who miss them too much

I could never do that to my children. I am a parent! My job is to love, protect and provide for my children. How could I do any of that if they live somewhere else?

Not a fan. It would probably better for some of the children of parents who can't afford it than for those that can. Avoiding abuse rather than "merely" experiencing neglect.

I don't believe in boarding school at any age. Kids need a home life.
