I only do the minimum, on principle. I sometimes write on the receipt "you would have got more, but your company wants to be greedy"

I will leave a hundred dollar bill if I want, but I do not like being told what I tip, or that I have to tip, and that the tip has to be 18% or 20% or 25% or higher. Some of these tap to pay machines have those higher tips set as the minimums, and if you want to leave less you have to pretty much try to reprogram the machine while the person is watching you. But if they gave you bad service, I don't want to leave a good tip. Period.

Tips are 10%. Tips for good service are 15%. Tips for really good service are whatever you want, and I leave really high tips a lot of the time. But this mandatory baloney is bullshit. Well, I guess it's baloney, and then it's bullshit.

Back in the 1950s a meal would cost like $2.35 and the person would leave a quarter and the waitress would be thrilled to have it.

How did we go from that to having to tip on the total, plus the drinks, plus the tax, plus a service charge a lot of the time? And they want a tip that includes the service charge in the calculation.

And now we have this “you must pay for our workers health care plans so we're adding 7 more percent to the bill” and “we have fees we have to pay to the city for the sidewalk out front so you have to pay another 11%,” and on and on.

“Just the tip I promise” has a whole new meaning outside of bed.

End of rant.

p. s. the funniest thing ever was when my aunt one time was so pissed off about the bad service she left a tip on the table and took the tip from the next table over as she was leaving.

For services like delivery or servant yes.
But for salons, tattoos. etc
Who the Service is doing by the owner itself, nope. If you want more just charge me more.

It’s pathetic when people work not just for salaries, but also need to beg for tips.

"Mandatory tipping" is  not  tipping. It is a service charge. I wouldn't even eat at a place that charges a service fee simply for dining there. I'm a great tipper, but I refuse to be coerced into doing something that should be a voluntary reward for good service, because it removes the incentive to provide good service in the first place.

we are doing well so we tip extra especially at places we like, small mom and pop places. I want to encourage them to stay in business. It's hard to run a business outside of corporate, and these people work. we'd rather pay peopel to work than collect on side of road.

tipping is kinda nuts though, I'd rather see salaries:)

UK here. We don't have the same tipping culture as America. Technically "mandatory tip" is an oxymoron. If it's mandatory it's not a tip, it's part of the price.
