Not long ago it was unheard of for a cashier at a store to expect a customer to leave anything in their cart such as a box of soda pop just so their lazy asses wouldn't have to work. What the hell is wrong with people? You have to deal with these lazy assholes not wanting to handle soda pop? Do your job or quit.

It’s not laziness. First of all, the technology has advanced. They have handheld scanners so that nobody has to lift heavy items more often than necessary, including the customer. Secondly, all manner of people can run a cash register. So it’s actually unethical to expect one employee to lift heavy items when others don’t have to or even can’t. Add that to the liability of an employee injuring themselves on the job and it makes more sense to just leave the items in the cart and scan them with the remote scanner.
It’s also a fairly nonissue. So it seems like you’re overreacting.

Hand scanners have been around for a long time unlike this shit. Do your job, if you're not qualified someone who is can do it.

Some stores have policies against lifting heavy objects, so that the employee doesn't get hurt. Just about every airline has a similar policy about not allowing flight attendants to help store a bag in the overhead bin... they suggest you ask another passenger to help you.
