Should I feel guilty for saying no to extra work on my day off?

I am scheduled to work from 5pm-12:30am, but I close and we normally dont finish until 1am-2am. I got off at 1am and didn't get to bed until 2am. They just called me at 7am on my day off, and asked if I wanted to come work today. Im guessing someone else didn't show up. I feel really guilty because I've worked with the lady before. The one who called. I told her I had obligations with helping my mom today. She was understanding, and told me to have a good day, but I still feel very guilty. Should i?

Go if you want, if not, don't go in.

Worrying about call outs is the managers job. The whole point of them is to MANAGE situations like this. That's why they get a few bucks an hour to do basically the same job.

You're fulfilling the responsibility you signed up for.

Having said all that, filling in a shift here and there is expected. It's good etiquette. And if you need to call out one day don't be surprised if they treat you a certain way for never returning the favor.

Managers will respect you for picking up shifts in advance so they don't have to call around. Which is nice since it's really better for everyone
