Have you ever got to tell a customer off at all?

I have, use to work for DELL tier 3 tech support. It was the day before my goddamn job was being shipped to some puke in India. A guy called in, got past tier 1 and 2, which means it must be a major issue right? I get to talking with the guy and start from basics because the computer won't turn on. I asked if his home has power, he said yes. I asked if the computer was plugged in to power. His exact response "no, computers don't need power so I never plugged it in" my response was " sir, please package your machine up and return it for a refund" he asked "why?" I said "sir it's because you're too stupid to own a computer" and I hung up on him.

@worldscolide When I first got started in IT I used to go to people's homes and solve their computer problems to make some extra money. I used to charge them 50 bucks just to show up and 50 bucks an hour after that.
One Sunday a woman calls me and tells me her computer would not turn on. I asked her all the usual questions and she said it was plugged in. So I drive over to her house. She brought the computer home from where she worked so she could work over the weekend. She had it set up on the kitchen counter. I could tell immediately that the end of the power cord that plugs into the computer power supply was not seated correctly. I just pushed it in and turned on the computer. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

I did once. A guy I sold a can of chemical mace to came in the store and told me that he was a cab driver and used the mace on a customer that tried to rob him. Apparently the bad guy got some kind of permanent eye damage. He was suing the cab driver and the cab driver wanted to pin the blame on the store I worked on or Smith and Wesson who was the manufacturer.

I kicked the guy out of the store and told him never to come back.

Not really. The closest I get is when crank callers happen, and I usually tell them “I know you’re bored, bur find something else to do”

I’ve had a few moments in my career where I *wanted* to tell a customer off, but never in the “lose it” kind of way.

What worked best for me:
- Firm, calm boundaries: “I want to help, but I won’t be spoken to like that.”
- Shifting to solutions: “Here are your options; you can choose A or B.”
- Knowing when to walk away: sometimes the most professional move is ending the interaction.

You were the “difficult customer whisperer” for a reason—those skills are gold in any career.

There was person in a restricted area of the building Mm co-worker and I politely asked him to leave the area. He got mad and called my colleague a fat you know what. The funny part was the guy was really big himself. I turned around and asked him if had looked in a mirror lately!
