Does incorrect word usage in English annoy you, and how do you react?

I have 2 examples and I don't claim to be fluent in English, but I see these 2 words being used in ways that don't make sense.

AN vs. A - it annoys me when I see people not using them correctly.

HOSPITAL - this is a weird one that I don't understand. you should be saying THE HOSPITAL.

Bad grammar, wrong spelling and other nonsense is a plague in our society. Mainly those born after the mid-nineties have a blatant lack in the command of language. Emojis, onomatopoeia, abbreviations and the like are like a gangrene.

The introduction of autocorrection has made things even worse. People don't write anymore, they dictate and then, they fail to double check the texts and that is when you have all those examples of misspelling.

This is however more an issue of the American English where words are "swallowed" and not properly spoken out like in the UK where people tend to speak a much more erudite English although the tendency among younger generations to take over bad US grammar is increasing.

I can forgive people getting things such as effect v affect mixed up or who v whom, but a v an is unforgivable.

If anyone is confused, then an goes before a vowel. There are exceptions, eg "an hour" and it's "a one". The trick is to note how easy it flows when you speak and think of them as a single word not two.

Affluent and effluent are another two you really don't want mix.

Yeah I get annoyed by people using AN when it should be A. Ditto incorrect THE usage too.

Saying hospital when we are talking generically about any hospital is wrong - it should be a hospital or if you really must, the hospital.

I am more annoyed by AI voices doing this; like bow can be a gracious gesture or a device to shoot and arrow. AI voices usually get it wrong. Another frequent one is if someone lives through a danger it is pronounced as lives in form of our collective lifes.

This really annoys the crap out of me.

Auto correct pisses me to - converting an to and... auto correct should be called fucker because it is one.

It does annoy me, especially from native speakers. In many YouTube videos about burning cars or houses it reads "the car/house was fully involved in flames". Wtf? It's "engulfed in flames"! Or how about screwing up the expression "a blessing in disguise" to "a blessing in the skies", double-wtf? Not knowing the difference between literally and figuratively, etc. etc. etc.

Ot depends. Like if it's totally wrong then yea. But I get annoyed when people pull out the dictionary and correct people unnecessarily or when they're being intentionally difficult.

Yes, incorrect word usage is abhorrent to me, although I do occasionally butcher some words.
When editing such faux pas is out of the question, as is the case here on G@G, I groan at my occasional blunders.

I'm perturbed about weather and temperature. A temperature, which is a number, can neither be hot nor cold. Weather is hot or cold. Temperatures are low or high, just as numbers are low or high.

But there are a host of weather people who call describe temperatures as weather! Infuriating. 94 is the high, 76, the low. 94 is not a hot temperature. It's hot weather...

I'm not really a grammar nazi who polices others attempt at a horribly broken language such as English.

That being said there are certain words and phrases both real and made up that bother me to no end. For example, I really hate when someone says "same difference". That one drives me up the wall. Also, those who use the word "guesstimate". Those are just a few examples though.

It's not always incorrect but it does get annoying.

A women is something that's common but annoying and incorrect while saying "i could care less" isn't incorrect but it is contextually dumb

It can be annoying if the person does it intentionally.

If it's an innocent slip-up... No problem. I do that myself occasionally.

Depending on how familiar I am with the person I try to correct them in a nice way. That said, sometimes I speak in an unusual way so I am able to give people some slack.
