Trending & News As someone who used to work in insurance, it STRONGLY depends on how the expenses work. Low monthly premiums with a high deductible are worse (in my opinion) than high premiums with a low deductible. The reason being the deductible is only paid whenever you see a doctor, your premium doesn’t pay for it, meaning if you have a high deductible your medical issues get about twice as expensive as they would have been without that issue. If you pay off your deductible, there’s suddenly a lot of medical expenses you don’t have. That’s part of why I stuck with my old insurance this year even though the premium rose 125% per month because I paid off the deductible.
Actually, now that I think about it, the price rose about 350%, going from $24 a month to $117
You never know what will happen but I wouldn't get an expensive one
get something that fits your income currently, that would be a investment not a burden
I’d generally disagree with that blanket statement.
From years of coaching families, what’s “smart” is not the price or size of the policy, but the fit:
- Yes, protect dependents: Term life insurance that covers income, debts, and kids’ education is usually enough and far cheaper.
- Beware of “kids will be rich later” pitches: Overbuying or choosing complex permanent policies can starve your current budget and savings.
- Balance: Adequate insurance + retirement savings + emergency fund typically serves your kids better than an oversized, expensive policy.
