Absolutely. I don't think beating and abuse is the way to go but honestly the we (parents) and teachers have zero power anymore because just raising your voice or using a cuss word be classed as abuse. We get told we are too much if we push and neglectful if we don't. It's easier to reward and punish a kid by giving or taking away a phone than trying to instill rules and boundaries on authority alone because back in the day getting in trouble was fear of getting a smack pr telling off and that kept kids in line "oh no please please don't tell mom/dad" but now it's like ok bad of they lose their phone cos it feels like a punishment but actually it is good for them so they end up reading, watching tv, making things or going out (if not grounded too) so really "bored" isn't exactly a deterrent like fear. Even animals bite or act "gently aggressive" to their young to teach them. The mistake is people confuse this with abuse. Adults that might shout and use fear because they are bad and not specificly for duscalpline. And too harsh.
My mum used to threaten to smack us with her shoe or give us a clip round the ear if my sister and I were fighting. I didn't like it but your not supposed to. Your supposed to stop misbehaviour. And my kids now are too scared of school cos kids are out of control with no consequences they care about and even teachers are afraid.
Well I'm not sure what you mean by to soft. I do know that they keep adding more standardizes tests in school. Kids are spending more and more time online. And kids are getting much stricter punishments with a lot more rules. Sure we may not expect them to climb a rope, but I don't think that means kids are getting to soft
@Nikki1989 VERY INTRESTING THAT YOU ASK THAT, NIKKI. In High School for football practice, we had to do exactly the same thing! The ceiling was probably at least 30 feet high as it was in the school gym, with the basketball court and we had a balcony for extra seating. Coach had us go up the rope either hand-over-hand or use our legs to help us hold the rope. At 16, I went to the beam in the ceiling and touched and came down hand-over-hand, not legs
During our class reunion (20 year) I asked the new principal, for a tour of the school which has since been torn down. I asked about the rope climb to the ceiling in the gym, and if they still required it in Physical Education, or football training.
His answer was: "Oh no, we couldn't possibly assume that responsibility if one of the kids fell" ..... YES, YOU ARE EXACTLY CORRECT
EVERY STUPID SON OF A BITCH WANTS TO SUE SOMEONE!!!
there's more neglect... than softness
doctors around the world have started to develop and decrease of early developing in infants
for example... babies and toddlers have started to miss their "milestones" by a full year or more... and a baby/toddler that should "usually" start walking, talking, crawling... and other things... they're just not doing it right away, it is taken them a lot more time
and that's because of neglect from parents, so these kids are going to be weaker in that sense and later in life, well... what do you expect? pretty much anything and everything will be harder, difficult, challenging for them so how do you do with that? going "harder"? or going "softer"?
as for educators... their hands are tied, they are not allowed to do ANYTHING

Absolutely. Parents let their kids get away with way too much these days. If I talked to my parents the way kids today do, I'd be thrown across the room from the beating
Absolutely 100% because we live in cosited society
Discipline begins at home. Plus you're not allowed to hit the kids now.
Hell yeah. I was at my god son's game and even the losers got trophies. Since when do the losers get rewarded for losing
That blew my mind
definitely, that's why gen alpha is a mess
Yes, I think they are.
