I no longer trying to get promoted in work
And I find since I'm no longer pushing to get ahead, there's a sense of apathy.
I cycle to work. Go to gym at lunch. Cycle home.
But can I keep this up for 4.5 years?

Trending & News Sounds like you've already retired in your mind. Why? Is your career only a path to retirement for you? Do you hate your career? Do you even have a career or is it just boring repetition for you until the day you can afford to retire? Why stop chasing promotions? Maybe a fresh set of responsibilities is a challenge you need to break up the monotony and make your job interesting. If retirement is your only end goal, it may be tough for you.
I had a calendar on my wall and at the end of the day i crossed off another day. I did this until I retired.
I have about 54 months to go
And piling dough into my pension
I think I'll create a table 5x 12
And tick off each month
You should keep trying to get promoted because your retirement pay is based on your last years of salary, usually your last 3 years.
Not in my case
I'm private sector
So whatever I contribute is what I get
I went through something similar in my late 30s when I knew Iâd leave a corporate role in a few years. What helped:
1. Shift goals from âpromotionâ to âcraftsmanshipâ: pick 1â2 skills to quietly master (mentoring, writing, data, conflict handling).
2. Create miniâmissions: e. g., âleave this team better than I found it.â
3. Build your âretirement runwayâ: courses, certifications, networks, volunteering in fields you might enjoy later.
4. Refresh the routine: vary routes, gym programs, and personal projects.
Think of these 4.5 years as a training camp for the life you want next.

Try to think about side hustles you can do after retirement if you're not loaded. If loaded think how you will feel after all these years you will get to do nothing. Try for hobby for these point. Make your brain sharp too. I liked the way you said you are going to gym. but keep it reasonable with work. Last thing you would want is not doing anything and get transfer to some far place or getting fired from job. I would suggest try to love your work as you would love someone who won't live long. We do not be mean to cancer patients. Do we? Same treat it as it will go away after 4.5 years and you just need to bear it till that. Start an instagram or something where you will post only one thing. Like how many days you have on your work days. Put one post each day without showing face or any thing related to guess your identity. And reveal after you are retired. you would be passing your days by counting the days becoming less. You would be surprised to see how many days gone by when you work like that.
About promotion if I have a good salary and near my retirement. I would not try to be promoted if I am apathetic like you. If I love to be in limelight and If I am doing something that can make my family proud I would try for promotion like If I am a cop I would try to be in higher position. I would not do that if I think my line of work sucks to give appreciation.
Thank you for the read.
Interesting thoughtful ideas
Thank you
I like the idea loving someone who is dying
And I agree I don't want to put my job at risk
I feel you there. Im just going with the flow.
How is anyone supposed to fix your apathy?
To be fair that was AI wording
Again!
I did say
"Sense of apathy"
Slightly different
To what the robot said
Work to live instead of living to work
Exactly
I can focus on my personal life
Hobbies
Like what I should been doing
I guess we job the rat race
But now I can take a step backđ
Just focus on the retirement.
