Boston vs Houston: which US city feels more interesting and friendly?

I got myself two job offers to work in the US and wondered what the rest of the GaGoverse considered or knew about the two places. I have chosen one for my own reasons but wondered which place others considered more favourably. I have also been to both places but only on vacation and it was quite a while ago.
FYI currently in Portugal if that has any bearing.

Boston is historically interesting, but it’s honestly a sh*thole now. If i had to work there, i’d commute. I would never want to live there.
Houston is better run, but Texas weather often sends the uninitiated packing.
I would choose Houston over Boston, but i’d have to take a long, hard look at the economy first. It would be a huge pay cut. If the cost of living isn’t commensurately more affordable, it’s not worth the move.

I worked in the houston area but it was over 30 years ago. It seemed like a pretty good city. Boston is real moonbat city with high taxes and high rents. Also the most expensive electricity in the lower 48 states. The weather is horrendous and everything is a pain in the butt.

Reviews I have read about Boston say the same though the tax rate was only 8% above the federal rate but I didn't know about the electricity costs. Cheers

There are many hidden taxes. Excise tax, sales tax, etc. Also car insurance is expensive as is homeowners insurance. My wife and I both make good money but at the end of the year there is not much let over.

From people I’ve coached and my own time in both:

Boston
- Feels European: walkable, older architecture, good public transit.
- Very educated, lots of universities, great for networking.
- Can feel reserved; social circles form around school/work.
- Expensive housing, harsh winters.

Houston
- Very friendly, “Southern hospitality,” easier to meet people.
- Cheaper housing, more space, car‑centric.
- Hot, humid, big driving culture, less walkable overall.
- Diverse, great food, especially if you like multicultural scenes.

Coming from Portugal: Boston may feel culturally closer; Houston may feel more welcoming day‑to‑day.

From where did you drive? I drive there when I visited USA about 15 years ago. Started in Ling Island then ended in San Francisco
