I am a student on work placement, well into adulthood. I’ve noticed that one of the male trainers there around my age seems to have a big crush on me. I’ll be working on a task for my tafe assignment and I’ll see him peering at me through the classroom window, while he’s teaching.

It’s happened so often that the school students have started asking questions about us and I overheard a conversation in the staff room between the young teacher and the principal, where she was advising him that he must hit on me after I’ve finished work placement. To let me finish first.

I have a feeling that he’s going to hit on me at some point after finishing the course. I have decided that there is some interest on my part for him; genuine romantic interest and some attraction. I also really like him as a person. However, I sense that I’m not quite interested enough in him that a relationship would last between us, long term and I sense that he wants a girlfriend. I sense that if I’m not careful how I word things that it might spoil my chances of applying for a job there and getting references.

What is the best way to approach this, if he does ask me out?
