I always picked up. The job I had essentially had me on call 24/7/365 if one of our customers had a serious problem that needed to be timely resolved. That rarely happened though.

- If it’s a true emergency and only I can fix it: I answer, even on a day off.
- If it can wait or others can handle it: I don’t pick up; I return the call later or suggest email/Slack.
