That will be determined totally by what kind of place they are working at. I think the most common work place for those called servers would be the food service (restaurants) and the type of restaurant would make a huge difference. My restaurant is in Florida and our min wage for our servers is $13 and as these folks get tips we are allowed a $3.02 credit making that hourly wage$9.98. We pay our servers $15 per hr and don't deduct for tips. Cash tips they just pocket, tips that are on cards we are required to report as pay and deduct taxes. Right now my three main bartenders are making $22 per hr and most of the kitchen gang is somewhere between the $22 and $26 currently. At the end of a two week period I want to tell you that payroll number can be very scary at times.

That varies wildly by the quality of the restaurant and how busy it is

Do they make the same weekly as a warehouse worker $17 an hour?

  • As Advisor Smith, I’ve coached many servers planning career moves or further study, so I’ve seen a wide pay range.

    In the U. S., full‑time servers (35–40 hrs/week) typically end up around:

    - Low-end: $400–$600/week (diners, slow casual, lower tips)
    - Mid-range: $700–$1,000/week (busy casual, chain restaurants, decent bar sales)
    - High-end: $1,200–$2,000+/week (high‑end restaurants, strong bar/wine sales, prime locations)

Pay depends heavily on tips, shift selection (nights/weekends), location, and skill.

If you share your city and type of restaurant, I can give a tighter estimate.

I hope you do! But full time would be best, if you plan on leaving the other job for good. Are they offering that yet? Or still just part time?

Yes I’m worried because I have $700 in bills per month, and I want afford rent my studio. They are looking for both full time and part time and part time is 20 hours I don't know if he meant max 20 hours or minimum 20? I need 30 hours per week at least.

I got interview for another part time job but it’s at a rich city 1 hour away and they seem eager talk to me. 😔 my mom lives very far there’s no good jobs close by. Not even cheap studios it’s nice small town away from the city only rich people that own homes live here

The job I did Interview at is 30 min away from moms house and my current warehouse job is 1 hour & 10/20min away I spent too much gas $200 weekly so I only make $300 a wk pretty much

Gosh, could you ask for more hours or to be switched to part time? I feel like it’s counterproductive to interview anywhere that isn’t close, because the goal is to stop having to drive your old car an hour away. I guess if you got the job in the rich city you could move closer to there, but I’d imagine rent would cost more given it’s a rich area. Ultimately you wanna give yourself the best opportunity, rather than end up back at your parents house. Especially since they don’t want you to move until married, they’d probably give you a hard time and not accept you back if you leave. So you want to be sure you can take care of your needs.

30 mins away is definitely better than an hour, you want as minimal wear and tear on your car as possible until you can save for a new one before school starts.

Yes I’m hoping I get the other job. I don't know I would ask if I can do 30 hours if I get the job offer. 30 is part time right? Or is 29 hours considered part time?

I think it would be better to ask for OT hours. Yes, 30-35 hours should be included in part time, but there’s no telling when those hours would be, things like that are usually based on availability. Getting more hours there could impede on your current job. It would be ideal if you could ask for a full-time schedule instead, then leave the other job.

Manager had said the position is full time but was nice and changed his mind said and part time too. I can’t ask be full time unless I get the job. I regret in the interview not say I’m open to full time til I start school Jan then be part time. I cannot say I want work 30 hours unless I get the job offer.

Even tho the server job at the rich city won’t be good option cuz Jan with school ill need evening job hours as school will be 8am to 2pm and only the Olive Garden interview I did has work at night plus tips and busy always.

I doubt a server job at a senior community will need servers at night. It’s prob daytime hours only.
