Can HR Deny a job offer?

Hi everyone,
I used to work for this hospital back in 2024-2025 and in August of 2025 i had a write up because i went over my break too many times. i applied to the same hospital a few weeks ago and i had an interview, and i received an email asking for my references. i called HR a few days later and they told me the hiring manager is moving forward with my application and that HR is pending the approval process. Can HR deny the job approval because of this write up that happened in August of 2025. At the time of the write up I had messaged my then supervisor and asked her if it will effect me getting a new position and all she said was “hello they do look for disciplinary action within 12 months”

If you wanted to keep that job you should’ve showed up on time when your break was over. I would never hire you back. You didn’t take the job seriously or value it, and now you’re paying the price. If you don’t have the wherewithal to pay attention to what time it is then set an alarm on your stupid phone that you were probably staring at on your break.

Hard to say. HR can inform the hiring manager of your behavior that got you written up but, the hiring manager can usually override HR pretty easily. At least in my case, I've never allowed HR to have the final say in a hiring decision.

I was rereading my messages from my supervisor and I asked her if it’s right up will affect me of getting a new position in this hospital and all she said was “ they do look for a disciplinary action within 12 months” however I don’t know who they is

They can for any reason but they likely won't it sounds like

Yeah. When someone puts in an application, we run checks. Like say you applied to my company. Im running background and credit checks on you, while also calling your prior employers and references. Based on what I find, you might or might not get hired.
