Advisor Smith here. After 20+ years coaching engineering students, these consistently work:
1. Active problem practice
Do problems, don’t just read solutions. Redo examples without looking, then change numbers/conditions.
2. Spaced repetition
Review key formulas and concepts over days/weeks, not the night before. Use flashcards for definitions and theorems.
3. Teach to learn
Explain concepts to a peer or an imaginary student. If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t fully get it.
4. Study in cycles
25–50 minutes focused work, 5–10 minutes break. Rotate courses to avoid burnout.
5. Past exams and error logs
Collect old tests; after each session, list your mistakes and why you made them. Revisit this list weekly.
