Hello!
y'all know I’m GAGs number one source for anything pop culture related. Why? Because I have no life! Who cares? Im having fun!
Today’s Mytake is about miss Doja Cat. Doja is a rapper who has been one of the biggest artists or the 2020s. She hasn’t been shy when it comes to headlines. Whether thats headlining the biggest music festival of the year or media headlines regarding her getting canceled…again.
Doja is known for saying what’s exactly on her mind. Even though it gets her in trouble over and over again.
Lets get into all the controversies she’s had since her rise to fame..
Dismissing Covid 19
Doja went to her Instagram Live to dismiss the seriousness of the virus which killed over 7 million people
"Im gonna get Corona and then get a Corona, cause I dont give a fuck about Corona. Bitch, it's a flu. I'm not scared. Y'all are pussies. period,"
Doja then went to contract Covid not once, but twice..
Controversial Collaboration with Dr. Luke
In 2021, Doja released her third studio album titled 'Planet Her.' Fans were not happy to see producer, Dr. Luke credited as a producer on the album. Dr. Luke in infamous for his rape allegations from singer, Kesha.
Doja says she has no plans on working with him again.
I haven't worked with him in a very long time. There's shit that he's credited for where i'm like 'Hmm, I don't know. I don't know if you did anything on that,' The point is he's gotten some credit for some shit. And you know, it's whatever. I don't think I need to work with him again. I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him."
Controversial Song Title, "Dindu Nuffin" and Racist chatrooms
In May 2020, an old song of Doja's resurfaced titled "Dindu Nuffin." Which is a racist term that is used to mock black victims of police brutality. It resurfaced during the height of the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter movement.
Also clips surfaced of her in video chatrooms making sexual comments with alleged white supremacist online communities
Doja posted a public apology saying she never should of been on those chat room sites and she never participated in racist conversations. She also went on to explain that the song was written about her own personal experience. She wrote it as a way to flip it against those who have used that term against her.
Doja later admitted on Instagram Live that the written apology was edited by her PR team. She went on to give an apology live cause she felt it was more authentic than anything written or pre-recorded.
My thoughts:
I think her apology video seemed genuine but at the end of the day, it's not necessarily my apology to accept.
‘So High’ Song Controversies.
Doja’s very first single ‘So High’ had a couple of different controversies. The song was released in 2014 but didn’t start getting flack until 2021.
People criticized the music video for sexualizing and appropriating Hindu culture. Doja talked about it in her rolling stone interview saying
“If I knew not to do that, I probably wouldn’t have done it [...] When something is so sacred to many people, I think it’s good to be more sensitive about it and just kind of back away."
Another concern people had was a lyric that some thought to be racist.
“Now we both look Asian” which refers to her and her partner being so high that their eyes are squinting.
Online beef with Noah Scnapp
In 2022 'Stranger Things' star, Noah Schnapp shared a screenshot of DMs between him and Doja. The DMs showed Doja asking him to introduce her and his costar, Joseph Quinn.
She then went on to slam Noah, who was a minor at the time, calling him a "snake" and "weasel" for sharing the conversation without her consent. The interaction caused backlash as the internet was confused as to why an adult would be asking a teenager to be their wingman in the first place.
Noah later said there were no hard feelings and they had a private conversation about it.
My Thoughts:
Her Relationship with Twitch streamer J Cyrus
In 2022, news came out about her relationship with Twitch Streamer J Cyrus.
In 2019 - 2020, multiple Twitch users accused Cyrus of emotional abuse and manipulation. The accusers being mostly female followers who were significantly younger than him. Cyrus issued an apology seemingly admitting to the inappropriate and predatory behavior.
Doja got backlash fans for dating him and she responded
"I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE. I NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME OR MY PERSONAL LIFE. GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE MISERABLE HOES HAHA!"
My thoughts:
Honestly I don't know the exact accusations against this dude so I don't have an opinion on her dating him. I believe everyone who says he's a weirdo but I haven't cared to do the research about it, not gonna lie.
All I know is 1. Doja has written some of her best songs about him. Agora Hills, Can't Wait, Masc, and Acknowledge Me are all about him. I love those songs.
and 2. She's way too damn pretty to be dating this man...like Doja come on now lmaoooo. She loves her ugly little white incels. I be jamming out to her songs and then i remember they were written about that man and I get sick to my stomach LOLLLL. You're telling me when Doja said "I love the way my man throw dick" she's singing about THIS DUDE?
Baby, nobody wants that vision in their head!
It's giving the same energy as Ariana Grande writing 'The Boy is Mine' about Ethan Slater. Like okay? Keep him!
They're broken up now by the way lol. Thank God....
Attacking Her Own Fans Online
In 2022, Doja expressed her frustrations with fans being overly involved in her personal life.
If you call yourself a 'kitten' or fucking 'kittenz' [a term her fandom has given themselves], that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house."
This attack on her fanbase seemingly came out of nowhere. The fans were even angrier after a fan expressed the desire to hear an "I love you" from Doja to the fanbase. Which Doja responded with "I don't though cuz I don't even know y'all." This interaction led to several big fan accounts taking down their pages completely. Doja also went on to lose over 600,000 followers on Instagram.
“you’d be working at a grocery store making songs on fucking garage band miss high school drop out” LMAOOOOO NOT THE SWIFTIE EATING HER UP. She ended up deleting her account after this interaction. I mean shit I would delete my account too if a TAYLOR SWIFT FAN came at me like that. How embarrassing lmao.
At this point, the general public believes that she "hates her fans."
She later debunked that accusation in an interview saying its a misquote.
One thing i do want to kind of set straight is that you'll never see a direct quote of me saying I hate my fans. Not once."
Doja has in fact told her fans that she loves them several times since this interaction. On the night her album released, she wrote "I DO love you" in red paint on a window during a release party.
My thoughts:
I was one of the fans who unfollowed her at this time. She annoyed me so much that I didn’t even want to listen to her music anymore. I 100% understand that she doesn’t need to say she “loves” her fans when she doesn’t know them. I think it’s healthy to draw that line in parasocial relationships. However she doesn’t have to be so damn mean to her fans about it… These people pay money for your music, your concerts, your merch. You wouldn’t be who you are without them. So why be so disrespectful?
I also remember one time her fans were waiting outside in the rain for her just for the concert to be canceled. Fans wanted an apology and she basically told them to go fuck themselves and that she doesn’t owe an apology for canceling a show.
Accusations of Being Satanic
. In 2022, Doja debuted a new look. A shaved head and shaved eyebrows. At this point, the internet believes she’s gone full Britney Spears. People were genuinely concerned for her mental health. They started getting more concerned when she proceeds to post demonic imagery and showing off her new tattoos ‘satanic’ tattoos.
At this point, the internet does what it does best, and accuses her of “selling her soul” and being a satanist.
Doja being Doja really leaned into these accusations by releasing songs and music video that further pushed this narrative. Doja finally talked about it in her Apple Music interview earlier this year.
She explains that she is not religious and doesn’t believe in Satan. She is just drawn to the artwork and wanted to create a sound that matched the art. She also goes onto say that people accusing her of being a satanist really discredits the hard work she’s done.
My Thoughts:
The religious psychosis strikes again! y'all are literally mentally ill.
I don’t believe that Doja worships Satan lol. I 100% believe her when she says she just likes the artwork because I agree with her. I’m not religious, I also don’t believe in Satan. However I’ve always been drawn to satanic looking artwork and figures. I think Doja just likes attention and she knows singing about being a demon is exactly what’s gonna get her that attention.
I also find it so funny that the internet cries about “ohhh we miss the old Doja Cat! What happened to Doja! 🥲”
she's the same damn person she always has been. She’s always been weird, emo, and edgy. The issue is y’all are comparing her to 2019 Doja Cat. you're comparing her to “Hot Pink” or “Planet Her” Doja. THAT image was the facade! Her ‘hot girl’ era was her label making her act that way to sell records. She’s acting like her true self right now… she’s just not trying to use sex appeal to attract an audience anymore.
If you listen to any of Doja’s old old music or watch old videos of her, she’s always been weird! The fact that these other controversies revolve around her being involved with alt-right incels confirms that she’s a loser trapped in a hot body… Sorry not sorry!
Controversial T-shirt
In 2023, Doja posted a selfie on instagram wearing a shirt of comedian, Sam Hyde holding a rifle. The comment section of that selfie filled with criticism. People pointing out that Hyde was sexist, racist, and a literal neo-nazi.
She quickly deleted the photo and reposted it, cropping out the shirt and captioning it with eye roll emojis.
She later responded to the controversy in an interview. She said she did not know the problematic implications associated with Hyde. She just thought he was funny and had no intentions of promoting harmful ideologies.
That’s about it
I’m sure there’s more lol. These are the major ones though.
What are our thoughts? Does this change your opinion on miss Amala?

I'm not into her personally. She gives me weird vibes and she's too confrontational, don't particularly find her music interesting either.
I'll just say one thing. I agree that she doesn't have to actually love anyone she doesn't know (fans) but does she think most of her fans really love her as a person either? I don't think they'll go into a mental crisis if she dies (well not most, there's always crazies though) or feel a strong way about it as they would if it happened to a friend or someone in their life. You don't have to love someone in a personal sense to "love"/like their work and the image they created for themselves or support them, it's a different type of love. In the same way that you can love your fans as fans and appreciate everything they've done for you without meeting you.
She needs to quit hollywood along with everyone else before its too late.
