Catcalling, what's your opinion?

Catcalling has recently become more of an issue especially with more women voicing their opinions about it.

Personally I have been catcalled but I absolutely do not mind if the guy says something nice or says something in a friendly way "like hey how are you?" or "you look nice today". One of my catcalling experiences unfortunately was negative where a guy slowed down his car and shouted at me out off his window (I didn't hear what he was saying because I was wearing headphones) but I was pretty stunned. But I'm not about to tar the male popualtion with the same brush because I know their are nice, sane guys out there.

HHHHOOOWEVEEER (most) girls do not want a group of boys whilsting and saying "nice ass" or "nice tits" thats not the way to approach someone or get their attention.

Guys, if you see someone physically attractive walking down the street its probably best to say something nice to them. That way you're more likely to get a positive response rather than "fxck off". Honestly most girls admire guys who have a bit of courage and start conversations or compliment people they find attractive.

I actually got cat called the other day, it was hilarious. I was visiting a SUPER hood grocery store for work, and this 55-ish year old looking lady with her eyebrows shaved off and painted back on comes up and asks me where she can find BBQ sauce. I explained that I didn't work for the store so I didn't know, but I would try to help her, and she was very nice and all apologies, and I'm like "nah, no big deal, I think it's in Aisle 7." She was like "thank you so much!", and I was like "no problem", and started walking back to my company's section. As she's turning the corner, I hear her loudly exclaim "Unhh... SEXY."😂😂😂😂 I'm like "whoa, this old bird is old enough to be my mom, but whatever, I'll take it", hahaha. So I'm all for it, it makes my day every time, regardless of who it comes from.

I get that there's a difference in the dynamic from men to women though. I was never afraid this lady was going to wait for me outside and overpower me, plus this is something that happens every few months, tops, and not all day everyday. Dudes flood the market and bring down the value of compliments, haha.

As a 6' tall Asian guy with an Aussie accent who's very well traveled and has quite a nice ass, I can categorically tell you - no, please stop this bullshit.

Though I am straight, I have been approached by gay men in most continents and countries I've traveled to. Random compliments/catcall? yep. Experienced that. Random guys take one look at me and then follow me around like a lost puppy trying to buy me a drink? Yep, experienced that too. Guys who try to play it smooth and get all handsy... *shudder*, yeah... that too.

But you know what? I don't hold any grudges towards these guys or even gay men in general. Sure, they're not my thing, and some even tested my comfort zone, but they all mean it as a compliment, and they all backed off when I made a firm point that I was not interested.

Sure, rape/sexual assault is a serious crime, but catcalling isn't anywhere near that. Women need to stop complaining about shit that isn't a problem.

In my opinion it's generally a male ego. I don't find it's about compliments as the guy likely doesn't know the gal well enough to assert that she'd like to be complimented on what he says or the way he says it. I really doubt it's about compliments considering how I imagine most guys have heard from many gals that they do not like to be catcalled so I would guess any reasonable person would consider that their 'compliment' may not be welcomed and if it was truly intended as a compliment they would speak if it was welcomed.

I find catcalling is just about a guy being egoistical enough to think that his opinion is the be all end all that a gal just must hear and she must appreciate (suggested by how seemingly butthurt guys get when gals outcry catcalling).

I find most males make this more dramatic than it is. To me it's not as if your utmost rights and freedoms are being taken away by being asked to consider if the other person wants to hear what you say before catcalling. I highly doubt it's akin to being some prisoner of war.

I am in support of catcalling as it seems the male defense of such is freedom of speech and just ignore it if you don't like it. Which to me is a tit for tat 'reasoning' for gals being as rude and cruel as they want upon guys approaching them or asking them out. So it's 'fair' play to me that guys catcall and I get to emasculate, humiliate, and insult guys I don't want who approach me.

Most women like to be complimented for their beauty. I mean, my wife puts a lot of work into looking good. And I don't mind if someone lets her know so - I just (obviously) don't want some creep yelling at her "nice ass". It's a cowardly thing to do to being with.

If I did though I'd try to be really polite about it and introduce myself first before I complimented them and if I did compliment them it'd either be about some physical feature about their hair or face or it would be about an article of clothing that was really fashionable. There's no logical reason to yell at strangers in the streets and there's no logical reason to feel offended when someone compliments you. There is, however a logical reason to feel offended when a stranger insults you, however, most of what strangers say to you should not matter anyway.

If it really bothers you that much, how about you ignore it? It's very simple. Turn up your music and enjoy.
