I can't think of a single great film that would be improved by becoming a musical, but I can't think of any great musicals that would be improved by removing the musical aspect either. There's a hard line there. I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but I have a few favorites; Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors, Rent, Grease, Wicked, and pretty much any Muppet movie.
