Woah, a 50/50 split.
I'm gonna go with The Simpsons.
I'd say Family Guy has shorter jokes with immediate payoffs and at least one "long con" joke, where the punchline happens near the end of the episode. A lot of the jokes involve toilet humor and insult humor.
The Simpsons has more of an established theme in each episode that's followed through with, and appeals to a broad audience. Jokes are running gags through the episode, with wordplay and puns thrown in that none of the characters acknowledge; a stark contrast to Family Guy, in which wordplay or puns are usually presented as being very self-aware, and pointed out as a bad joke (see the "Megs Benedict" bit for reference
)
On the whole, I like Matt Groening's writing style a lot more than Seth McFarlane's, especially with Futurama. Groening strikes me as more of a writer. McFarlane strikes me as a fan of musical theatre and the performing arts. Generally McFarlane's works come off as a bit more juvenile. Not that there's anything wrong with that; it's cartoons we're talking about, after all.
The Simpsons, especially the earlier seasons, were hilarious. I still think of them and laugh out loud, at times.
Family Guy was ok in the first season, when the baby was plotting world domination, etc. But then in the second season, he started acting out in a sexual manner - just wasn't funny to me. Then the humor got progressively worse - gross toilet humor (to the point I thought I was watching South Park, which I eventually stopped watching when I couldn't take it anymore).
I found myself laughing less and getting grossed-out more with Family Guy. Then when I saw the episode where the baby and the dog get locked in a bank vault - that was it. I stopped watching the show after that. My stomach couldn't take it anymore. 😄
I do try to watch the Christmas episodes because they're often like clever mini-musicals.
The first 8-10 seasons of the Simpsons is a completely different show than the seasons to come after.
It's really sad that it stayed on TV after it's quality completely disappeared, because there's now a whole generation of kids who literally never saw an episode of Simpsons that wasn't cringe-inducing.
If you've never seen early Simpsons, you've gotta check it out. Then you'll understand why they never take it off the air no matter how much it sucks. At one time, not only was it the best show in the History of television, but at the time it came out, it was the ONLY thing on TV that was even good.
Nowadays kids don't understand that because now you can watch any show at any time, but back in the day, if you wanted to watch TV, you would have to actually flip through the channels and see what the TV studios had put out for you that day and if you didn't like any of it, that was tough fucking shit, you could go read a book instead.
Family guy breaks too much. I don't like how often we are no longer seeing the characters, but Seth Green or Seth McFarland speaking directly to the audience.
Simpsons has NEVER done that, for all intents and purposes, they've created real 3d characters. Even when they DO break the 4th wall, I feel like it is Homer, not Dan, who is speaking to me.
I agree. Know why FG does that stupid shit? Simple-- because they have no ideas.

For some reason I like Family Guy better. I guess it's just more my humor than the Simpsons, although I've watched both. I find Family Guy more entertaining and it might be the only show that's ever made me laugh out loud.
The Simpsons altho the new stuff they put out is definitely not that good.
And I feel like Family Guy just reuses the same plot points over and over again.
I mean the latest episode in my opinion was the worst piece of grade A garbage I have ever seen.
I think they were trying to parody commentators, but it was incredibly annoying. I don't want the cast talking over the episode the whole time...
I mean if you want to include that as bonus footage on a dvd or Bluray that's fine, but don't do it on the actual episode.
It was like two story lines going at the same time and I can barely follow what's going.
To me Family Guy is way funnier than The Simpsons since The Simpsons lost the humor back in the late 1990s. The believe that the show The Simpsons could have gone further with the humor but deserved to stop way short of the line. It would be like running a marathon and deciding that stopping 5 miles short of the finish line is good enough and every marthon there after youbonly run 21 miles of the 26 miles.
Well The Simpsons has a better rating overall and a larger audience due to it's parental guidance certificate. The Simpsons is better because it's doesn't need to be dirty, vile, racist, offensive or have lots of toilet humour like Family Guy to make people laugh so it's an animation you can admire.
there's a lot of people out there who won't tolerate Family Guy because it can be too over the top. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of funny bits in it but I just think it needs diluting.
I find Family Guy lame.. simply not funny for a couple of reasons. So I'd have to go with the Simpson's.
I love The Simpsons. The older episodes are the best but the current season now has stepped it up with their new episodes
YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ORIGINAL
Hard core simpsons fan🤣
Uh... The Simpsons is one of the greatest TV shows ever made. Family Guy was only funny for its first three seasons or so; it's been trash for almost fifteen years.
How is this a question.
I find this question to be disrespectful toward the Simpson. But I have to admit that both shows became very boring but the old Simpsons were a wayyyy funnier than family guy.
I like the characters better in family guy but I like the Simpsons as a whole much more.
The Simpsons during the 90’s when Conan O’Brien was helping write and produce was the best cartoon ever
Family Guy, definitely. I like their humor and characters.
Simpsons, older and more classic Episodes that did define my childhood
The Simpsons. I think Family Guy is okay, but let's face it the vulgar humor is too overboard.
Well they're both ripoffs of The Flintstones, but Simpsons did it first. And better for 9 seasons.
I love The Simpsons. They have a lot of humor, heart and creative stories
OH MY GOD. THE SIMPSONS. BY FAR.
right I'm like how is this even a question?
Simpsons by a landslide
