Seems like some people misinterpreted the question. The question was about who is your favorite Superman, not about who is your favorite actor who played Superman. They all are different Supermen.

Okay, I'll play.

Kal-el. He was the original and the best. You don't mess with a legend and all the others - save "Superboy: The Adventures of Superman when he was a boy!!" as my DC comic books used to tell me - are the products of lesser writers trying to profit off of a legend by using a name they should not be entitled to use.

Oh, and by the way, your update notwithstanding, George Reeves - the 1950s TV Superman - but with a shout out to Brandon Routh. "Superman Returns" just worked.

Yeah I can guess where you are coming from. He matched the look which was there in the comics.
But I liked Henry Cavill the best.

Yes, it was the look - and I would give Cavill a close second - but there was a poignancy to Routh's Superman. Especially as he realized, the lone being from another a world - a stranger all alone - that he has a son. That worked and made Superman three dimensional.

Cavil is good, but is a little too brooding for my taste.

Chris Reeve had it right. In my view When I first saw S-1 (1978) when I was like 5 years old I believed Reeve WAS Superman. He was completely clean and virtuous. The next one I saw was Superman Returns (2006) with Brandon Routh. It took me a while to realize that wasn't Chris Reeve and is also pretty good, but over the years I realized there was a poison pill in the plot. Superman disobeyed both his father "in heaven" Jor-El and his earthly father Jonathan Kent and abandoned Earth on a whim. Not only that, but left Lois Lane holding the baby. Superman would have done neither and Brandon Routh's career was somewhat derailed... But I still like the movie.
Henry Cavill's Man of Steel is a good character as well and considering the times, he's pretty goody also. The truck driver got what he deserved.
