Right now I'm watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind again, and I am reminded how brilliant it is (very unique directing, writing, and acting), and how difficult the pain of love lost is. (I wouldn't say this encapsulates my life, but it just got me thinking. I'll have to think further about my own question and answer...)
I LOVE that movie. I'm a big fan of Michel Gondry's style and Charlie Kaufman's writing, which I discovered from this movie. Michel and his brother created these amazing short stories in 2018 in a series called Las Vegas Love Stories. It's so crazy to me to see all that was created into about 8 seconds each. You've probably seen it already-- I know you're a film buff. adage.com/.../949506 And then Charlie Kaufman is publishing a book in 2020, which I want to read to get in his mind. First on Eternal Sunshine, then Adaptiation, and Synecdoche, I just really enjoy his thoughts, dreary and dark as they may be.
I'm not sure if there is one that fits my life. I'll give it some more thought though.
Don't forget "Being John Malkovich". That is one of the most original movies I can bring to mind. And I've read the original screenplay. It is even weirder and darker than the movie.

This is hard for me because I don't watch a lot of movies - my philosophy is unless a movie is very very good - its not worth watching - so I never view Netlfix since the best movies rarely appear in their selection pool.
I would say the movie about scrooge describes my life - I used to be stingy and proud and greedy but my fear of hell changed me - now I dream all day long about doing good things - most of the time I don't have the time or energy or freedom to help everybody I want to help but I fantasize about doing good deeds.
Perhaps "Say Anything"? Hard to say, really. I can identify with the outsider who is admired by many yet that's just not enough. And how life is pretty arbitrary.
Eternal Sunshine is an excellent film, very thought-provoking. It catches the essence of pain and regret in romantic relationships.
Yes, life is often arbitrary, isn't it. I've seen Sunshine probably four times now, since 2004, but I have a shit memory and I tend to be quite dark so once again I forgot that it ended with hope! They realized their memories had been wiped, and that the pain would inevitably come again, yet they both agreed to do it all again. So nice.
Is it good? Never saw it. I don't feel very strongly towards her one way or another, but she's really good in a lesser-known film 'Long Shot'. I like the odd combination with Seth Rogen. Way better than I thought it'd be. But I am a Seth fan. I think he does very modern comedy writing.

I've always had a soft spot for Good Will Hunting. Probably because I'm a smart kid who holds himself back due to some childhood trauma. But instead of having someone hug me and tell me it's not my fault, I've got my little internal voice telling me it's all my fault.
That is a hard one. Maybe someone has a movie recomendation. The closest I can think of is "Where is Hannah" or that one with that trash robot almost wining in the robot boxing league. My life's been like - lonely and bullied in school - knocked down and thrown away by everyone, picked up by myself, fought back, achieved some dreams, still lost in the end and am still lonely. Now pack to picking myself up. Next goal is to move to a different country and restart again.

Aww, I love that movie. So beautiful. Sophia Copolla did an outstanding job, making it quiet and not overblown. Yes, I don't know how people move away by themselves. It must be terribly lonely.
I have never actually finished the Ethernal Sunshine... I have tried watching it twice with two different partners and they both just started falling asleep in a middle of the movie. I dont like watching movies on alone but the only person I know I could finish this one with is my mum who lives 1500km away from here
It's worth finishing, imho. Watch it yourself, and next time someone wants to watch it with you, your attention can wander a bit, because you'll already have experienced it fully once. It's so visually stunning, the camera tricks and editing, hard to look away. I turned it on last night when my husband was supposed to be packing for a trip, and he couldn't focus, as it got later and later, up until 11pm, so I turned it off, to release him. We are big film enthusiasts, so rare gems like this hold our attention.

Most likely reaction is no reaction, though. Most would assume you chose Fight Club because you are frustrated and wish you could act out against the injustices of society (this consumerist, capitalist world, the supposed suppression of masculine expression and aggression, yada yada). It's safe to say that zero people would assume it's because you like making soap. It's not so mysterious. It leads a person in another direction because of what a strong theme the movie has. So, Burton, are you looking for a needle in a haystack of a person that questions it otherwise? Or maybe just a fellow enthusiast who will say something to the sort of, "I love it too!" but it will be for different reasons. Or is your soap answer a cheeky lie, just to play. It "got me chatting" because I consciously decided to see if there was something more there, anything of interest (I've seen the movie several times). But most people write biref answers, and most people don't follow up on comments. See my point?
You are a very intuitive person. So to ease your inquisitive mind. it was both a cheeky response but also true. I make soap. Every batch it crosses my mind if it would really be better with human fat lol can't help but going there. And fight club was an awesome movie. Awesome. I also tend to agree with a lot of what Tyler says. "The things you own wind up owning you" stuff like that resonates with me. I'm sorry I'm not mysterious enough for you. I'll try to do it better.
Okaaay. Noow this is fun. (rubs her hands together.) I'm glad it was true, the soap. I am, therefore, not disappointed. Reality is better than fiction. I know, once an idea takes hold, like an earworm, I find it impossible to get out. I'll give you three examples. They all are negative. 1. When I was a teenager or so, I imagined, 'what would it be like if while brushing my teeth, and going down to drink some water from the spout, I accidentally cracked my teeth against the faucet and chipped a tooth?' Guess how many times I've imagined that over about 30 years. 2. I've had lots of pets over my lifetime. I love animals and always have. But my last dog, I'm still not over her death. I feel bad about her health problems and that we had to put her down. But of all the thousands of memories I had with her, I keep wincing at the day that I was clipping her nails, and I, for the first time, clipped them too short, into the 'quick' and caused her so much pain. I thought she was just being a brat. She wasn't. 3. Ever seen the movie 'Enemy' with Jake Gyllenhaal? What an odd movie. I don't do horror, barely ever, and when I do, I relive them over and over. This movie isn't horror, per se, but it's just odd. Eery. But now when I'm alone, walking into my bathroom at night, guess what I think is waiting there in the tub? (You've got to see the movie.) I've rarely been so shocked in my life. Ok. That's it for now. Glad we had this little chat. I made a question about you/this. Because this type of thing happens so often with me. P. S. Yes, that toilet monologue is one of the best pieces of writing in all of film. From that moment, they had me at 'hello.'
