My boyfriend trashed my music, what should I do?

We listen to some similar bands, but his music is my depressed music. He really only listens to really slow indie music. He says that he won’t listen to any love songs, which kinda sucks because one makes me think of our relationship and he just trashed it. Then he was about to diss my favorite pop artist. I said, “whoa stop. I might have to break up if you constantly down him.” I was somewhat joking about the severity. Then he got upset. I apologized and started crying. It made him sad that I was crying and he wouldn’t let me take the blame. I felt so bad yesterday, but now that it’s morning I feel like he shouldn’t be asking me to change my musical taste for him. I know it’s silly, but I feel like he won’t allow me to play love songs at our wedding, listen to my music in our house, etc. I like a lot of genres and I hate when people aren’t open to other types of music. What should I do?

It comes with age being open to music, i dont like a lot of my gfs choices (we do have the odd shared) but i just call it her lesbian music (its lots of girls singing sad songs).

Music taste is very personal, we all have our likes and dislikes, but you can't just change your taste, it is who you are, mines adapted so much over the years to encompass a huge variety, but when i was 16 i was very much single minded about what i liked

I think you made me realize why it upset me. I showed him the song and told him it made me think of him. Then he completely dissed it. I mentioned it was okay we didn’t have the same taste because I liked these artists and he didn’t. Then he started talking poorly about those bands. I just thought he would be more courteous since I showed him as a way to express how I feel.

Luckily, he’s not directly asking me that. However, he refuses to listen to half of my music and sends me song recommendations all the time. Some I like, some not so much. Yet I always tell him it’s nice because I don’t like telling people their music is bad. He tries to spend every waking moment with me, so this is kinda rough because I know he’ll complain when I try to listen to them. We’re not breaking up over this, but I’m beginning to think this warrants a conversation with him.

It's something you either gotta compromise on or just live the rest of your life unhappy in the music department... I mean god forbid there's other problems and it contributes to breaking up

He’s really great, other than this one issue. We listen to similar bands, but he doesn’t like my other genre of love songs or clear enunciated music. He likes complete vocal fry, and it’s not my main preference.
