I would consider it more of an escape than a hobby. I guess a catch would be if someone is using TV to learn more about something or to develop a skill. I would consider watching many documentaries on a topic (like history or cooking or interior design or animals) to be slightly more constructive than say, watching The Office or Friends for like the 3rd time.
In some ways, I would put TV in a same category with video games... an escape. In some video games, you have the ability to connect with new people, unofficially network, although most people don't actually use those functions and no one else really cares about you personally getting to stage 14 of level 7 of version 2 of a game, but they might be comforted knowing someone else has a similar interest.
Not really, lol. That's more of a distraction or entertainment than a hobby.
A hobby is something you physically do: gaming, sports, crafts, gardening, building, etc...
Though I won't lie, I think the majority of us consider watching tv a hobby since it is a form of relaxation.
Nah. Its hard to say.
You keep up with a lot of information and popculture/mediaculture but its not like you actually do much. There's not much effort, you just sit passively and maybe reflect some on things.
Compairing to another bumsitting habit is gaming. Which is more of a hobby than TV. Because you recieve information and puzzle out strategies in your head, communicate and apply youself to achieve a goal.
Watching TV or gazing at youtube all day is more of an idling habit.
Watching television is totally a hobby & if reading is a hobby than television has to be added to that list as well. Why you might ask? I took the time to look up the definition of hobby & a hobby is defined as (An activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.) My fellow couch potato you make me proud!

For some it's a part of their daily routine or lifestyle. Personally I haven't had cable for over 4 months don't miss it at all. Now being without my TV for Videogames would drive me nuts.
I feel like for guys yes they donโt have many other things they can call hobbies and for girls we seem to do a lot more hobby type stuff in general.
"A hobby is a regular activity done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time, not professionally and not for pay." So yes
Just tv, no. But watching something more specific can be a hobby. Like if you like a certain show, or dramas, or cop shows, or comedies, that stuff.
Watching TV is more to me a pastime. Itโs the content or programmes they like watching that tells me more about them.
To me a hobby is something where you put some effort into something in your free time so watching TV doesn't count.
it definitely is. It fits the literal definition of one. And there are an infinite number of tv shows you could be researching from years gone by, to include into your watching, which would make it an even more extensive hobby. It might not be the most healthy of hobbies, but it's 100% a hobby. lol
I don't feel like you can call watching tv a hobby.
Kind of like I don't feel like you can call chess a sport.
It's more an addiction like smoking or drinking than a hobby
I asked this Hawaiian guy i wanted to make a pizza with him
And he said "can't you see I'm busy watiching tv?"
People say no, but to me EVERY activity that you do often during your free time, is a hobby so Imma go with yes
PROB more of a bad habit as much as i watch it 🤣😂
Hello
Anything you do often in your spare time for pleasure is a hobby.
No, watching other people living their lives is not a hobby.
Itโs more a night light when Iโm sleep😂. i barely watch tv. But when I do, I watch soaps
Anything that you do unpaid but that also isn't a chore (taking the garbage out etc.), is considered a hobby
Not a hobby I like to list on a dating profile but leasurely time sure
Sort of, finding anything worth watching is a bit of a talent.
an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.
