Are you not as excited for movies anymore?

The last time I was genuinely excited for a movie was Star Wars: The last Jedi. I liked the Force Awakens fine enough but The Last Jedi was a huge let down for me.

For the past few years I've been finding it hard to get excited about movies in general. I can't be the only one in this boat, can I?

A rising trend for several years now has been the blandening (to coin a phrase) of movies; production costs require profitability all over the world, and comedy and in-depth character interactions often don't translate well across cultures, while boobs and explosions are universally popular. Similarly, a new property is a huge financial gamble, while a known franchise can reliably be expected to bring in at least SOME people, but a sequel that definitively ends things means no more sequels, so it's hard to sell a story that's self-contained.

The result is a pastiche of bland, lowest-common-denominator mindless action flicks. There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but sometimes you want something artistic or thought-provoking or really deep. You're not going to get that in Michael Bay's "Boobsplosions 4- Revenge of the Boobs!". But it's still going to sell tickets.

Well the pandemic has made movies like this impossible but a few that currently hit my radar were these

Nearly all are reboots but I don't care 😂 and wonder woman 1984 was also fun too

I've never really got that excited about a new movie coming out.

Yep, I feel it too. But do you mean just recently or for the past long time?

I do get excited about the Mandalorian but that doesn't count.

True for most movies especially the new star wars, but I'm normally pretty excited for most of the marvel movies

Well, that's good. I'm not really a fan of Marvel so at least you've got more going for you than I do for myself.

No way, I love movies.

I mean, I do too. Most the movies I love are the older ones I've known for a long time.

I'll be glad to love a new movie if it turns out I like it.

That makes sense. I take chances on movies on Netflix and Prime, and Id say my success rate is about 70%. I also like series.

You're better off exploring the countless great films you've yet to even hear of, instead of acting like a desperate consumer waiting for lightning in a bottle to come along.

That's true. Plenty of good films out there to find if you don't mind digging a little bit.
