Have you ever read a book called The Secret?

Im curious about it. About 3 months ago, I stumbled upon Law of Attraction. Never tried it. Was thinking about giving the book a shot. What do you think? there's also The Power by the same author.

Yes, I've read it. I've also read other similar books.

Now, onto the topic - for most people, it works. Spoiler: there is no "magic" or spirituality included. The way I see it, by believing that it's gonna work, you take steps that actually help you to achieve what you want. Writing down what you want on a paper? Sure! It reminds you of what you want and reestablishes your focus. Not accepting negativity? A classic Stoic move! Not pushing hard for the one thing you want, while instead dividing your focus in a balanced way on all the things you do throughout the day? That's just plain logic - neglecting everything else while only looking at what you want is counterproductive (the best example is chasing girls - you might look desperate).

Hermetic laws, the law of attraction, sudden influx of luck, it's all just to convince the masses that it's working. It's like a religion. You don't need to understand it, just do it because it's magical and it's good for you.

For philosophers - the books are good, but they are shallow. Nothing the good old Seneca or Marcus Aurelius can't tell you. Half of its content is just the neurotoxin for most people. Since it's aiming at the American market (Americans are generally superstitious), it had a huge popularity. Something like cheap Scientology.

Overall - the books have nothing "bad" written in them, so if you struggle in your life and lack the drive, motivation and purpose, give it a shot.

Its just that I've always been pessimistic and negative because I ignored my friends advice. I want to be better.

I see, sorry for that. You have to take the necessary step and maybe change your worldview to truly prosper. It's not something "bad", being pessimistic etc., but it is truly counterproductive. You see, even women don't like negative men and won't make up with them. Not to mention that success is terrifyingly relentless in this matter.

You have nothing to lose, but if you don't find answers in this book or you would rather understand its core, not its usage, be sure to check out some philosophies. For example, stoicism. A great way of developing yourself, I assure you.

Good luck and stay strong, you can do it! And this is not propaganda, I've literally seen way worse instances of people being totally destroyed and weak and they managed to get out of that hole.

What is stoicism?

It's a school of philosophy started by the ancient Greeks. Later, significant Romans as Seneca or Marcus Antonius (yes, the emperor himself) wrote a couple of scripts on the topic. It usually discusses life questions and gives a reasonable, logical answer to them. It has helped me to carry on and find (and not abandon) "my purpose". It has also helped me to fully embrace my "protagonist" personality and thus to develop my character.

When I felt bad about failing to progress or about a girl not loving me back, only Stoicism could help me get back on my feet. It has pushed my standards up and strengthened me.

Look it up, there are some fantastic YouTube series, for example by "Philosophies for life" (I can't post link since I'm not lvl 3).

Also, if you find it interesting, try "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. A series of writings collected in a book about his insights on life. by the way, he was considered to be one of the "five good emperors" by some renaissance author.

You can learn from philosophy as well, it's not much different, but I agree. Give it a try, it can only be good for you 😉

I haven't read that, although it has to be somewhat good if it sold so many copies. Just be careful to not be somewhat "tricked" by the spiritual matters described in these books into something like scientology. Spirituality is a dangerous topic to research, don't fall for its tinsel.

It's mostly for very rich people, like Holywood actors et cetera. It claims to be a mix of philosophy and religion, but I view it as nothing more than a sect. They have some story about how a nuclear bomb destroyed a volcano or whatever and apparently there is some God involved. If you want to uncover secrets and have your soul "elevated", you have to pay a gigantic sum to attend a "cleaning" or how they call it. The trick is in how costly it is to attend these and how many of them you actually have to attend.

To my mind, it seems like It feeds on those with no life purpose or weak willpower. It drains money out of them for a little bit of "hope" that you might have a wonderful afterlife. It ruined many and certain groups even managed to carry out mass suicide of women, men and children in order to "escape" this world. Madness, if you ask me.

You can find many other sects like these, so that's why you should be careful.

It’s an enticing topic of discussion for sure…

I think the important thing is, no matter what you do in life, don’t expect it to come easy. It’s not like there is some magical outside force that will just bring you success and abundance in life.

You have to work hard, succeed, and fail… and fail again… and just keep going. Do what feels right and what feels natural to you, and it won’t always be easy, but do what it takes to find your way. I think that’s the most important takeaway… The further along your path you get, the more things will pay off because you’ve made strides, you’ve put in the work… A) leads to B), which leads to C), and so forth. Do everything you can to take “luck” out of the equation.

Have the right attitude and the right approach, hone the right skills, create opportunities, and you’re well on your way... Be in control of who you are, and the decisions you make.
