The current trend in country is also not to my liking.
I call a lot of it 'ghetto country', not all, but enough to find myself frequently asking my wife to change the station if we're in the car together and listening to music on the radio.
Today's country music seems as if it is trying to garner fans from many different genres, leaving true country fans wondering what the hell is going on.
I grew up being virtually unaware of country music. My wife introduced me to country, and at that time, in the 1990s, I did surprisingly, find it to my liking.
Classic country from it's inception up to maybe somewhere in the, I don't really know decades, again because of my ignorance of it until the 1990s, I now find it to be great.
Heavy metal is also in my categories of dislike.
I'm a classic rocker, but I am amenable to many current rock bands.
I could go into other genres that I like, but that is not the point of this question.
Cheers to all!12 Reply

+1 yModern pop and progressive rock.
Modern pop is nothing but mostly empty lyrics and plastic artists. Some of them are supported by particular people to top the charts and been told to sing a certain way, wear in a certain way, speak in a certain way, just to impact the popular culture and influence people specially youth in a way they want. Some of them are disconnected from the reality and real life. The rest are following the trend like a puppet just to be relevant and sell something, no integrity on their own.
About progressive rock, i don't like it musically. I could never connect with it's unorganized method of writing.12 Reply- +1 y
Really now? I think prog rock/metal is some of the most intricate and interesting music that exists. This song was actually pick by the Sydney Conservatorium to be studied by composition students.
https://youtu.be/aMorAdnCixg - +1 y
Haha yes! Really!
I have listened to that song! I actually liked it, it's well built, the symphonic-like sound, the screaming and the other vocaal mixed in together etc.. but despite this fact, it's not a form of music that i'd listen to consistently.
To me, progressive rock appears unorganized. As a drummer who used to be in a band and a music/rock passionate, my preference is the old fashioned structure: Proper Intro, Verse, Chorse, Bridge, (repeat), Outro. But progressive always sounds "all over the place" kind of music and that makes me anxious to listen to sometimes 😂 like a sense of unsettlement.
My favorites are Nu-Metal, Hard Rock, Punk Rock, and Alternative Rock, Christian Rock and sometimes heavy/rock. Metal.
Not too much into death and black genre either.
Recently i'm digging Symphonic rock too!
Sorry for the delay, it has been a crazy week.

+1 yI was going to agree with rap but I don't class rap as music. It's just people with zero musical ability chanting and either whinging the police are discriminating against them because their criminals or people boasting and making threats.
Country is ok but it has to be the more cheery stuff, not the "I want to blow my brains out but I can't afford bullets because my wife has run off with her lesbian lover to find jesus" crap
Folk music is cringeworthy and should never be heard unless you've had at least 3 pints of cider.21 Reply- +1 y
Not surprising coming from the girl who called a black girl a monkey on this same site. Rap takes skill to be good at it. Drake, Kanye, Jay z are all examples. People consider drums music but wanna shit on rap. Music is more than singing. A lot of rapper make beats and engineer that crap too. More than singers ever do if they even write their own lyrics. And I'm a singer who doesn't even listen to rap but I have the awareness to know it is much harder than people think and more similar to singing than people think. Especially melodic rap which is taking over. I don't think people have a issue with rap. I think people don't like the culture behind it. Nothing wrong with boasting by the way. It's called good self esteem and wanting something in life besides some 9 to 5 working you to death. Some nerve you have to talk because I know 100% you are racist. I've seen it with my own eyes. I should have reported you when I had the chance. But either way that wouldn't save you from being an idiot. @420Rachel Rachel you should block this girl or dude whatever it is.
Dam I completely agree, rap music, death metal and most country music.

Well worth a shot lol , finding a girl that likes the music I like is a rarity so I had to take a shot lol when you meet someone that has the same music taste then that is usually a great start considering you both know you already have a lot in common and would enjoy spending time together jamming music is the way I look at it , So it’s an instant turn on lol it easily breaks the ice lol

u +1 yI'm pretty much the same, I don't actually dislike country music I just could never get into it... so I just don't listen to any of it
and this new thing they call "mumble rap" I just can't stand it... and same with most of the "modern" takes on rap... these things are usually a minute and a half of the most insipid and basic track of beats and then zero substance to any sort of wording craft110 Reply- +1 y
and I haven't met yet... someone that's into country and maybe wants to talk about it, lol... maybe hearing someone about how they're into can give me a new perspective about it, because that's also quite interesting to me... how others feel about it and how they like their music.
I just have not met country fans yet. - +1 y
I live in the south so I know quite a few people that like country. I had an ex that was all he listened to and my best friend also really likes country. So even with being exposed to it I just can't enjoy it. My ex really tried to get me to like country but I was just like... "Let me show you some metal" 😂
- +1 y
lmfao... did he like any metal?
I'm from the very far South, which is the South of Texas so actually... the Tex-Mex region
I don't see any country in here, but I do see a lot of Tex-Mex music, like cumbia, ranchero, grupero... which in a way can be more like country, but there's a lot of Mexican music influence to it, so it's very different, certainly not "dull" and although I do get it because I grew up with it all around me... is not what I am into the most, I also got more interested on the metal first, because of older friends and my brother being into metal and then because of my own curiosity and interests... more towards the darker or the gothic among other things...
My father would listen to a lot of classical, orchestra, composers, jazz, blues, soul and what not... while my mother liked some of that and some R&B... and also a lot of music in Spanish and Italian, the oldies... so, at the end of the day I am about variety... I just never got into the country and it might just not happen, lol. - +1 y

https://www.youtube.com/embed/S8C3Kh5Uk2MSpeed and flow is the name of the game and it's artistry lays in the lyrics matching the events unfolding. It's like looking at a "snapshot" of violence.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/qleJpzB4q7A
Then you have some Eminem. It's descriptive and jokey with a lot of ego and arrogance in there. But the aim is to annoy and entertain. The artistry lays in the accuracy and wordplay of events.

+1 yI would say "Mexican polka", but that's not a genre of music. It's one song that three billion minutes long, and they just take chunks of it out whenever it's time to make a "new" song. That's why they all sound freaking identical; they're all part of the same tune. This doesn't apply to other forms of polka (and I don't speak German or Czech, so that's not the problem), or other kinds of Mexican music (so THAT'S not the problem), but it IS similar to disco (which arguably IS the problem).
13 Reply- +1 y
wait wait wait... Mexican polka? what is this thing, do you have a youtube link to it?
- +1 y
@NathanDavis It may be called by a different name, but it seems (to me, at least) to be a clear attempt at a Mexican-style version of polka.
- +1 y
Oh ok, if you are really interested, Mexico does actually has both Polka and Waltz. and they came straight from Germany, Poland and Czechoslovakia... it came on it's original form back in the 19th century and the of course, mixed, blended and gave place to other things that involve the accordion.
here's a much better explanation of all of it, by an actual musician, if you're interested is a three minute read, or you can listen to if as well if you hit play.

Not bad. In a way, because I've already got 54,000 records and no room for more, at the moment, I've kinda shut myself off to new stuff because I tend to be a completest when I find a band that I like so, I won't be rushing out to buy any stuff by these guys. Also, this kinda borders on the stuff I'm talking about. I believe it's called death metal. I've heard of something called scream-o but, i'm not 100% sure I know what it is. Could it possibly be what I've been talking about?
Of this genre that you've posted, here's a couple that I like, mostly because of the synths and the singing part of the vocals. The vocals on the first part of the song are the kind I'm talking about. If i tried doing that, my voice would be completell shot in the first 15:00!!

Which subgenre is that?
- +1 y
That's,. basically, the kind I DON'T like. It was okay until they started the speed polka section before the screeching kicked in.
I'll go from it''s start in the late `60's up to MAYBE the early `80's but, after that, it's all just the same thing over and over again. They come up with dozens of sub-genres but, once you've heard any one of them, you've heard everything in that sub-genre! Just like rap and this pop princess shit they shove down our throats, today.
What do you think of this guy? He used to be my guitarist, he was in at least 8 different bands at the same time!! Most of them were metal bands.
