Would you?
Have you ever hired a photographer?
Would you?
Yes I have, I had about 10 of them do my wedding lol.
bit of a back story, when I was in the Royal Air Force, my trade was avionics, however we also did all the reconnaissance work as well. This meant working on lots of cameras systems and sensors, including hand heads by canon, Nikon etc.
i was on manufacturer course to fix various SLR’s and other types. Also we all attended JSOP (Joint School of Photography) learning how to take photos, develop wet film, take covert stuff etc.
this meant a lot of my Air Force mates were photographers etc.
i sent out the invites and the actual day had more bloody cameras than enough lol.
i have also ‘hired’ friends to do various work related and social related shoots.
it is something I should spend more time on…
Many years ago, a guy I worked with was a photographer on the side. I hired him to take pictures of everyone (individual and group shots) at a family reunion picnic. They turned out great. Most were given to the family members. I still have some of them.
When my kids were growing up, my ex-wife and I and our kids had an annual family phot at a local studio. I still have all of those. It's interesting to see the kids grow up over time while the parents don't change much.
Thanks for mho
My husband was a part-time fashion photographer.
He took all the pics I used as my avatar & profile pic here on GAG & my other accounts.
He also handles lots of pictorials for various families.
Yes, for senior pics and for engagement pics. Engagement pics were a friend of ours, but he does it professionally.

Ywah, my parents have hired quite a few times. It was great. They did a photoshoot for me and my brother
I'm a photographer myself, doing it as a hobbie now.
Would make sense to hire one for shots i can't setup myself, although would be hard to not micromanage them.
My profile pic here was done by a hobbyist photographer, we just had fun shooting her and she wanted to try too.
I had some wedding pix done by a professional photographer that lived across the street from my wife. They came out really good.
Not a professional photographer no. On a side note, you have a very happy and photogenic looking family. :)
They are a cute family, lol I am just the one who took the photos
Is it a hobby or full time job?
It’s a hobby more than anything else
I think you're much better than just a hobbyist. I mean yes you can teach about white balance, aperture and focus but making photos come to life is something you have or don't have. and you do definitely have that ability.
I am the photographer that people hire. It's my side gig
I've never really known much about this. What are the going rates for such things? is it charged on an hourly basis or a flat rate?
It all depends. From what I have seen is most photographers have package options that can be chosen, and then will have extras that can be purchased.
is it your goal to eventually become a full time photographer? also you've got some really good pics. I really liked the ones from the Halloween theme especially. I thought they were very creative. As for these, fantastic. I think they're perfect for a life time. Its great that cameras have become so much better over the years in comparison to the older stuff. Clear photos for generations far after our own to still clearly see and appreciate.
No it's just something that I enjoy, I do it here and there. I took a bunch of classes when I was in school and invested in some good equipment. I did have a sole proprietorship set up for about 3 years but then closed the business down in 2020 because.. well because 2020 lol
What would I need a photographer for? I'm alone with my dog.
Maybe to get some awesome pictures of your dog. They have pet photographers
I can do it though.
I mean cell phones Decent cameras but they don’t replace a DSLR 85mm f1.8
But the important distinction here is I could immediately take a photo of decent quality without an appointment and without spending any additional care of cash.
If I so wished, I could take a photo of myself wearing an obscene tshirt and post it simply to prove the point that I can do that, and it would take only a few minutes.
Yeah but you can’t get much of a depth of field with a cell phone.. guess it all depends on the look you’re going for
Depth of field looks good to me.
No, but I am learning how to become really good at photography.
Yea for when I finished grad school i had the pics professionally taken
Behind my loft in the alley I see it done a lot. Where I take my dog for runs too. I think they’re great for husband/wife and or kids. Frame it and put it on the wall/countertop whatever.
I never had professional photos taken. You're pictures look really nice. You have a wonderful family.
Thank you, I haven’t done many photo shoots log family’s with really young children so this one was a bit challenging but was fun.
Nope never have. Would be cute whenever I have kids though
Have done for couples shoot when we've been abroad on holiday and for new born shoot with son
We used to. It’s really expensive, though. Those pictures are really good, actually.
Thank you :)
Yeah, our photographer was charging like $550 for full sessions instead of $250.
That’s not a bad price at all. Good well established photographers will price their services between 400 - 2000
Yeah, she was not a well established photographer. 😂 But, yeah, you could charge upwards of $1,000 per session. Plus it’s HOURS of editing and planning so that money is not made just in an afternoon so I understand why it’s not $50 instead.
Yeah it takes a lot more work than a lot of people realize I think
I take some decent pictures on my phone. I don't really hire any photographer.
I haven't, but my extended family has before, seemed like a bit of a waste to me personally.
I think a lot of people feel that way, they don’t see the value in it
Absolutely. Many times. Those photos are adorable!
Yes and yes. Indoors so far.
Thanks for like!
What time of the day those pics were taken?
I have 2 photography related suggestions for you if I may
There were taken approximately an hour before sunset. Ideally I should have like 2 hours before because of the location and lighting but the family was late and I had to do the best with what I had
You are a photographer?
Or family in picture is yours including you?
I took the photos, I wasn’t in them
I’m a semi professional photographer lol
Nice pics. Are you familiar with Golden hour?
I am, that is the time at which these were taken
Nice
They are wonderful pictures
Maybe but so far I have not.
