Why do guys think video games are so cool?

I like playing video games but guys are weird about it. They think I'm weird for identifying as a woman but they they identify as a "gamer" 🤣

Video games are entertainment. Consuming entertainment isn't cool. It's not productive. It's not an identity. You could be working out or making more money. I hate hearing guys talk about what they're doing in a video game like it actually matters in real life.

I get like 15 year old boys obsessing over video games but adult men who obsess over video games deserve no pussy.

Video games are a hobby, not just entertainment. Some hobbies can be productive activities (like gardening, working out, or working). But productivity is not (and will never be) a requirement in a hobby. That a hobby is entertaining is far more important than whether it is productive. This is because a hobby is primarily meant to help us de-stress, relax, and/or feel happy.

Video games are my hobby. I feel happier playing video games than if I worked out, or made money, or did something productive. It sucks that my hobby isn't as productive as some other people's, but again, productivity is not important. As long as I manage my time well so that I do in fact make money, what I choose to do with the remaining time, whether it be planting trees, or watching paint dry is my choice and business. If that bothers some people, that's fine. They're probably not people I want to know.

Our job while alive is to live a life in which, at the end, we have little or no regrets. I know I'd definitely have regrets if I gave up video games because I cared more about people's opinions than my own happiness. We try to do what makes us happy. I personally don't care if it's cool or not.

The truth though, is that video games ARE productive. You can learn several useful life skills, pick up knowledge you didn't have before, and improve your mental capacity, unlike with activities that you can pretty much do on autopilot. Many video games challenge you to think quickly, manage resources, train your reaction time, be more strategic and innovative, and build a inspiration and a positive attitude from achievement through effort. These all sound really cool to me.

Gaming is a hobby. Hobbies don't have a requirement to be productive, as they're primarily there to provide stress relief and make us happy. On top of the fact that playing video games can be turned into a career. (Twitch and YouTube have proven that this is more viable now than ever.) I choose to play games in my free time because I get more enjoyment out of it than I would playing sports, gardening, or whatever other hobbies I could take part in. College is stressful and I get to relieve that stress by chilling in Discord with the boys and playing games, and could even start growing a Twitch channel to make money on the side. (Which I plan on doing.)

It's not hard to see how people can view gamers as losers as some people really do nothing in life aside from play games and ignore their responsibilities, but not everyone who plays games is like that.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The gaming industry is one of the largest in entertainment, streaming yourself could be one of the most productive careers in the modern era. Aside from that, for the average guy, games offer a break from the world, an alternate reality like books, movies and theme parks do. Games are probably even better because you interact directly and can even influence the outcome in some cases (Huge fan of COD WW2, Vanguard and Cold War speaking)

O or just other friends, its fun meeting new people online playing the same kinds of games you do, they mean a lot because of how much effort we put into it from the start even if we're getting no benefit from it, its still entertaining us, making us happy sometimes, and honestly, I'd say people should do things that make them happy, and enjoy it, but I also do agree that people shouldn't be too addicted in video games and should make time for their life inrl and actually go out and see the world too, because life's short and unique. we need to be grateful to be able to wake up today. because we never know when thats gonna stop. so just do things that make you happy, but also spend time outside, with inrl people, with family, friends, etc. enjoy life too.

People are pretty fanatic/obsessed with everything. You have the tv series fanatics, celebreties, foods, sports and of course ! Gaming. Teens are usually pain in the ass no matter what the subject is. The gaming community is getting greater than anything and the toxic unmatured well be seen first and they are many. I have been gaming for over 30 years and i learned the balance between gaming fantasy world and reality. My 11 members squad i have 3 girls and we have fun together. On my youtube channel ia for gaming and they are in my videos and we are just laughing, BUT! you can't expect every single guy that play video games to be the same. Spending a lot of time ji6st doing one thing, i will be talking about just that one thing. What is it you play?

I see nothing wrong with it, then again I like games ;) . A person behind the wheel, who ever it may be at the moment, I call 'the driver'. A person who drives, a driver. Someone who games, gamer. But that's how I see it.

Consuming entertainment can be 'cool' though. For example watching documentaries, you learn stuff while consuming it. Reading can be entertainment too and you can learn stuff.

As for games themselves, you can put them in a different language, some games have lots of dialogue and learn that language as you go. If it's online you get to interact with people. You learn what to say what not to say how to work things out together etc... And another thing I like about it is that if you watch a movie, 2 hours and it's over. 8 bucks for the movies, two hours, it's over. 30 bucks for a game, and you can enjoy it for the rest of your life. Good deal.

I love certain kinds of video games for many reasons. The graphic visuals, sound effects, ambient music, strategy involved, the action, the stories, earning trophies on my profile, leveling up, alternative clever ways to finish quests/missions, the humour/jokes, bloody gore, giant cool looking weapons, boss fights, rpg elements, and much more.

I'm responsible for the unofficial fallout 3 patch on the Nexus. I super enjoy editing coding fixing the bugs in it. That's my passion on the side I greatly enjoy involved with gaming.

I’m a woman that plays video games. For me it can be a social event since I have a lot of friends that play them too or if Im playing alone it makes me think of creative stories and theories about a different universe.


A lot of people watch movies and watch TV. That’s also entertainment and it’s commonly consumed. Video games are no different and a lot of creativity and hard work are put into making them for others to enjoy.

As a game developer I can tell you that games are a large part of being part of being of a community nowadays. Instead of going to a pub, guys will often communicate and hang out with each other in these games. Especially during covid where guys are unable to bond in person, this has definitely increased. In general games also adjust to your personal pace and give you clear achievements and progress, in a rapid pace, which is quite addicting.

Got me!! I never played any but Pong and Pac-Man. Although, there WAS one interesting game I played here on my computer for a while a few years ago. I was pretty good at it, too. It was more of a puzzle than a game. I was more interested in accomplishing the goals than getting more points. There's another I just remembered that I think is called, Triclopse. Again, it was for the fun of it, not for the points. I tried Qix a few times but, it wasn't that great.
