The infrastructure for a site like YouTube is pretty immense, like the servers and everything with the laws and employees and insurance and all the intricate logistics, I think the only things that could topple something like YouTube would be an already huge company that develops a super intelligent AI to filter videos and deal with copyright issues and all the community intricacies in a nuanced and accurate manner. Like the huge downside to YouTube is it’s copyright AI system. When there’s a simple issue with a video, people are basically stonewalled by an inept support system that is largely run by shitty ai that just don’t have the intelligence required to deal with customer support issues
Mmm…. before more subscription movie apps were added like: (hbo/max, paramount etc etc.) I would switch between dailymotion and Vimeo, just to watch foreign indie films and loong versions of exercise videos from huge company sellers. Then Vimeo and dailymotion added more ads and changed the rules of copyrights just like YouTube 😒.

a monopoly bust up seems like the only way now
An enormous advertising blitz for starters
It would be hard, Vimeo is not so popular.
No ads; same content
