Why are people staying with YouTube when alternatives are vastly superior (except in quantity of content)?

With all the negative changes like the 2017 adpocalypse, MSM coming over, censorship of conservatives, removal of good features, abuse of copyright system, constant downgrades to UI/UX, COPPA and similar compliance, and now forcing people to disable ad blockers. Can't people just migrate over to sites that are better than or have the potential to be better than YouTube, such as Rumble, Twitch, Kick, Odysee, and PeerTube?

If you clowns keep allowing yourselves to be abused by Google, they're just gonna assume you agree with their business practices. YouTube didn't start out having so much features and content that it did, until enough people used it, so if the same happens to Rumble, Kick, Odysee, etc., then they'll propser too. I made a Rumble account and have been semi-regularly watching videos over there, but now that YouTube is forcing people to disable ad blockers, I may fully migrate over; might consider Twitch soon I don't know.

Mostly because it is expensive and difficult to break into the market and unless a service is of equal standard, people do not move easily.

This means you need to offer incentive to content creators to make it worthwhile for them.
You need to carry the monetary losses this is likely to incur as you build up a userbase and content.
At the same time you need to survive the assault from the established organisations, above and below belt.

This is difficult. This takes a lot of resources.

It does not help that FREAKING GOOGLE owns youtube. Google being the number 1 non-government organisation in the world you do not want to mess with. Google can, at a relative whim, decide world leaders, burrow companies, create new fortune 500s and so on.

It might seem easy. And it is entirely possible to do some grass root thing. Go viral and take a slice. Like Tiktok for example, which arguably fills a similar niche -but different enough to not actually upset google.

In reality, its sort of like trying to take what is in your kitchen now to compete with world-spanning supermarkets.

But yes. We absolutely should all agree to boycot youtube and create new alternatives. We should also not vote for bad politicians, vote in third/outside parties. Declare world peace. Stop world hunger. So on. All of which are very easy if people unite. But we don't. So its difficult.

Yet alternatives like Rumble, Twitch, Kick, Odysee, and Bitchute exist and have existed for years, with Twitch being bought out by Amazon and a serious rival to YouTube after they allowed non-gaming content. Rumble and Kick in particular are among the top 250 most popular websites in the world, so they have the potential to become a threat to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitch some day. Hell even though DailyMotion has been around for some time but YouTube hasn't made them obsolete.

Before some time when YouTube wasn't around*

Most video websites that existed before and alongside YouTube way back then either died out or end up becoming niche. Like just look at 9Gag for instance, they mainly just have short video clips and GIFs, and they bought out Vid. Me which I think started out as a porno site but later as an alternative to YouTube before it went bankrupt.

You're forgetting that despite Google having a lot of power, they've failed with the infamous Google+ (their answer to Twitter and Facebook).

The only one of these I have heard of is Twitch as far as alternatives go. And Twitch only competes with Youtube streaming. Which is something youtube only recently began with and is not taking seriously.

250 most popular websites vs the no.1 (google) and no.2 (youtube) isn't really competition.

You are right about Google+. Although I'd argue it is irrelevant as it lacked ingenuity and defending a legacy monopoly and breaking into one are quite different.

Either way I am not saying its impossible. I am all for an alternative. I am just saying it is much more difficult than it might look. You really need incentives and operating despite losses for a while.

Some times I take the train to work instead of driving my car to the city takes like 1 hour to get there but my point is I see everyone looking down on there phones lol on train and when I walk down town Boston I ask random people all the time old or young peeps hey what u watching sorry I'm just being nosy... Twitch has had almost all the big good streamers go to you tube cause of the abuse they give them.

What ever YouTube does it's never as bad as the others. The stories of abuse from twitch are just older and buried and removed.

YouTube at least let's it's creators be honest and not remove those videos.

YouTube didn't start out as a way to be good for monetizing either. And Rumble actually has the highest potential to compete with YouTube and Twitch, as they entered IPO last year. With that mentality, YouTube is gonna keep getting worse while y'all keep getting pegged. And no, many videos either get demonetized, hidden, or removed entirely if creators are too "honest".

Also YouTube is terrible for monetization unless you're a big channel (1 million+ subscribers) or you're a corporation in bed with Big Tech. Rumble has Locals integrated to it after they bought them out, which is a competitor to Patreon, Ko-Fi, Subscribestar, etc. Twitch and Kick are self-explanatory so those are viable for making money too, although the latter is kind of shady since it's owned by a gambling company.

YouTube let a lot of violent, sexual, and other obscene content on its platform before many times, only taking them down because of bad publicity; there are still animal abuse videos still up on YouTube smh

There's far better alternatives to music, such as Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Amazon Music. There are other apps/websites out there, but they're either too expensive and/or don't have as much songs.

Yes but you have to pay for them. I have found stuff on You Tube that I never thought O would ever hear again. I used to use Napster before it became aa pay site. I downloaded hundreds of songs, some of the most obscure stuff I used to listen to in high school and college.

No you can pretty much use SoundCloud for free, and also there's no shame in sailing the high seas or even directly supporting the artists so the record labels don't profit.
