Thoughts on the UPS "eQuad" trucks?

UPS Tested four-wheeled “eQuad” electric truck for deliveries in densely packed urban areas, where bicycles have better and easier access, to get to them to be pushed thrust into electric cars.

UPS is testing about 100 of the bikes, They have been tested throughout 2021 and now. They are designed and built by the British company Fernhay, in seven European markets and will also launch trials in the United States and some Asian markets.

The eQuad has an electrically assisted top speed of about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) – if you pedal hard you can go faster – and can lift packages up to 200 kilograms (441 lb). The electric battery has a range of about 40 miles (64 km), which Wake said would be more than enough for urban routes.

One of those things wouldn't hold the packages that come to my one house on a daily basis. We have giant UPS trucks, and often 2 or 3 per day. One of these extended-length trucks might hold the packages for about 6 streets in my neighborhood, and the nearest depot is 20 miles away. I get that these little electric mopeds are for urban areas, but I still have trouble seeing how they could be actually useful.

My one court, with 20 houses, is typically visited by 2-3 UPS trucks, 2-3 FedEx trucks, 1-2 USPS trucks, plus the random DHL, Ontrack, and other vendors every day, M-F, and almost as many on the weekends. Business is a BOOMIN' for package delivery in the suburbs.

The US postal service used to have the Cushmans. They were very effective.

Yes, but back then, they were delivering letters and magazines. UPS is delivering packages. I have a hard time seeing how that little moped is going to hold enough packages to make it worth having.
