Why do you think there are so few older games (40+)? Have you ever met an older gamer?

Video games have been around long enough for there to be games who are in their 50s or 60s.
The arcade and home console both originated in the 1970s so a preteen or teenager from that time would of that age now.

I was wondering if anyone started playing games like pong in the 70s, NES in the 80s, N64 and PS in the 90s and just still plays today.

We are reasonably many.
But I don't meet gamers around my age in silly environments.
If I judge ''my generation'' right - ''we'' have little interest (in average) to participate in games that address much younger minds. Over the past 2 or so decades I believe to see a tendency in games to just produce fodder for the masses that is ''fail-safe'' for marketing and monetary exploit.
The ''elders'' ( :D ) simply aren't targeted customers - so ''we'' respond by retreating into our own -emm- reservations.
Find us there, and count. You will be surprised, heh heh.

I’m one of them! Although I have to say, I’m kind of getting tired of them at the same time. I’ve had a great gamer life in all. I grew up Mario and Sonic, experienced all of Halo and Metal Gear. Done all of the Elder Scrolls I care to and played Assassins Creed enough to be done with it. I still love DOOM and Halo, but what gets me is the amount of time you have to invest in them. It feels like a second job sometimes. They’re becoming increasingly difficult and frustrating these days. I’ll still play Mortal Kombat every now and then, but I’ve been playing more mobile games lately.

That’s true.
I remember the longest games in the 90s you would have to marathon an entire day to beat, now these big open world games like Elden Ring would take a week if your fast.

My dad is in his 50's and he still plays a lot of games if he has time. He's the one Thad got me into them.

I just think that there was a certain stigma around video games back then so it wasn't as prevalent as it is now

I used to play games at the arcade back in the 1980's. You had to make your quarter count and once you were out of money you just stood around and watched other kids play.
The last console I had was PlayStation 2, then surfing the internet became more exciting for me.

I did, starting in the mid-80s, but games have changed so much since then. I no longer find them so interesting anymore except for some of the retro-style indie titles.

I never cared much for 3D graphics and controls, for example. The only 3D games I really liked were Deus Ex (2000), VtM: Bloodlines (2004), and Mount and Blade: Warband (2010). M&B was the last one I played a lot.
