Dude, you're going to get to a point in your life where you'll look at everything around you and think "I need something simple right now."
And that's how videogames reenter the picture. Because there's something satisfying about seeing megaman run across the screen to... I don't know... rescue the princess, or whatever he does, when the rest of your life is a giant needlessly complicated house of cards.
@TheSpaceGnome I personally don't have the time/emotional bandwidth to get in any kind of involved videogame anymore. It's gotta be the simple stuff for me.
@TheSpaceGnome It's the amount of time and dedication you have to devote to different things in your life. So when I say I I don't have the bandwidth to do something, what I'm saying is that that thing requires too much commitment for me to put the kind of energy I would like into it.
@TheSpaceGnome Yeah! We all have things that we are willing to put more time and effort into. My big thing is photogrpahy and cinematography. I have unlimited bandwidth for nearly everything involving cameras.
I play video-games and tabletop RPG’s with friends on weeknights and during the winter. But I love woodworking, mechanical stuff/doing my own vehicle maintenance, car customization, household improvements, shooting sports, hiking, camping, ATV riding and photography when my schedule allows for it. Personally watching sports is boring to me, but to each their own. Just because you grow up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life. Keep an open mind.

You're definitely in the minority here. Gamers outnumber non-gamers now. And like all other things that people choose to do with their free time, its of no concern to you.
I bet there's hobbies you love that someone else thinks is cringy and childish. But as I said, ain't nobody's business.
Because I enjoy gaming it's a nice way to relax after a long day of work I can just shut off my brain and delve into the game world and have fun. And with my job being as physical as it is gaming provides me a way to just chill and recuperate.
And as @SixFootSexy stated there's a lot more to games then people realize.

I wouldn't call it dumb. Hobbies are meant to be fun. If you want a productive hobby, is it really a hobby? Lmao.
But yeah, I get you. In a professional work environment — some video game mustn't be discussed. Do it in a house party setting or on Instagram or whatever. One cannot fake their hobbies, but one can choose not to dominate a conversation about DnD knowing the other members would probably not follow.
I’ll one up you and tell you I’ve lost interest in sports as well. A lot of work keeping up with games that are for pure entertainment that are built around rewarding directly punishing your opponent.
When it becomes an addiction, is when it’s a problem. Addiction is relative. And humans are still wrestling with what a socially acceptable amount of gaming is.

Because video games are just something we never grow out of. They are fun no matter how old you get. Think about how the games change and you just feel nostalgic watching them develop games over the years going from playing a link to the past to something as beautiful as breath of the wild. These video games also inspire us to other hobbies. If you gave them a chance you'd see what an impact these games have on us.

Ell oh ell! If they’re not embarrassed by it, why should you care? Seems to me somebody does need to grow up, but it ain’t the ones who enjoy video games and aren’t afraid to admit it. Ell oh ell!
Personal entertainment, I still watch anime and 67. Sometimes you find a good story and sometimes you find a sad moment, and sometimes it’s just entertainment. I do watch grown-up stuff on TV to. But, it’s just a personal choice. Don’t get all been out of shape but what others enjoy doing!
I’ve always met my kids where they were, I made it a learning experience for them. Planning on doing the same with the grandkids. You can always say when I was a kid, things were different! We do outside things to, Like camping and traveling! To be able to communicate you have to use all your resources available!
I felt this way for awhile (I still played them but I felt it nonetheless) then someone at work said to me when he plays he isn't drinking, spending money out, potentially getting into trouble and he's enjoying himself. As long as you are satisfied in other aspects of your life then what's the problem? You don't play them all the time obviously but it can be a helpful and fun tool to pass time.
People are allowed to have hobbies. Nothing wrong with enjoying a game - it's like reading, watching a movie, show, etc, except it's more skill focused than any of those and can be a social activity

Because people are allowed to have hobbies and believe it or not, you're not important to most people and so most people aren't going to stop doing the things they enjoy just because YOU think they should.
Unlike craftmanship that practically requires a workshop costing thousands of dollars videogames can keep you entertained for hundreds of hours at a fraction of the cost.
I don't know if you've not kept up with the times but many athletes of today also play videogames between their training sessions. It's a great way of finding relaxation and entertainment at the same time. Also, playing at PRO level pays more than a lot of jobs so it basically IS a sport.
Videogames could be productive as a sport. They're good for creativity, maths, logical thinking, cooperativity. Depends on the game. It's also good for playing together.

Why are video games only for kids? I see video games as an extension of board games. I enjoy playing Settlers of Catan, but you can't always get together for a game night. So getting on the computer and playing StarCraft with someone on the other side of the planet is the next best thing.
How much you want to bet this person sits on their ass and watches TV all the time. I know lawyers, fathers, engineers middle age men who play I games with on the weekends.
What you think your hot shit, or that you're cool because you don't play video games? Give me a break

I like video games for their complexity, so even without the urge for simplicity, they're fun.
@TheSpaceGnome I personally don't have the time/emotional bandwidth to get in any kind of involved videogame anymore. It's gotta be the simple stuff for me.
Whats "emotional bandwidth"? and how does it relate to gaming?
@TheSpaceGnome It's the amount of time and dedication you have to devote to different things in your life. So when I say I I don't have the bandwidth to do something, what I'm saying is that that thing requires too much commitment for me to put the kind of energy I would like into it.
Ah, well by that definition, for the things I like, I have unlimited emotional bandwidth.

For me its challenging video games and making art.

Inoright?
They should get a productive hobby like posting questions, and giving answers on a website.
Yet you have hundreds of posts on this website. Is this a self-roast?
Just a roast on you, but you may be bright enough to make the connection.
There is no age limitation to when one can pick up a controller and have fun. Just because YOU are a killjoy doesn't mean you are right.

Oh, I forgot to mention I have five grandkids to, and we watch TV together and play games as well!
You sound like a really fun grandpa :D

What is the difference between playing a video game and watching TV? At least with video games you can actually interact with friends and family.

Shirley Curry has over 1 million youtube followers. And when I get her age I want to be just like her.

Yeah, its not like he has his own space program or anything... xD
@TheSpaceGnome Yeah and knowing him he'll be playing Elden Ring 2 on Mars 10 years from now
Unlikely, mars has no magnetosphere, and modern gaming electronics are too fragile in terms of solar radiation resistance.
