This genre of rock music has caught my attention lately, but I don't know much about it...
Hard Rock/Classic Rock from the 70's and 80's, early 90's mostly even though they're probably still going.

I just think of them as good old rock and roll. You could never call them metal, hard rock, maybe.

As you can see from my nickname (guitar), this subject falls within my field of interest. Also, I'm so glad this question was asked because these genres are a bit confusing and people get it wrong...
What is the rock genre AC/DC?
AC/DC is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal; however, the band themselves have always classified their music as "rock and roll".
The band has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, including 71.5 million albums in the United States, making them the tenth-best-selling band of all time. AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and was named the seventh "Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time" by MTV. In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine ranked AC/DC number 72 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
AC/DC's debut album, High Voltage, was released in 1975. Their 1979 album Highway to Hell reached the top five in the United States and the UK, and was their first LP to go platinum in the US. The 1980s Back in Black was their first album to reach number one in the US and is the second-highest-selling album by any band, and the highest-selling album by any band not featuring The Beatles on the Billboard 200. 1981's For Those About to Rock We Salute You was their first album to reach the top five in the UK.
The band's lineup has seen many changes over the years but has always consisted of the Young brothers on guitar, with various drummers and bassists. Their current lineup includes drummer Phil Rudd, bassist Cliff Williams, and lead singer Brian Johnson.
AC/DC is known for its high-energy live performances, which are often described as "a wall of sound". Angus Young is known for his distinctive guitar style, and the band has been credited as one of the pioneers of heavy metal. They are also known for their use of rock opera-style storytelling in their lyrics, and for their iconic album cover art.
AC/DC have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and have received multiple Grammy Awards and Juno Awards. They are considered one of the most influential bands of all time and have been cited as an inspiration by many other artists.
What is the difference between heavy metal and hard rock?
When it comes to music, there are a lot of different genres and subgenres out there. And within those genres and subgenres, there are even more subgenres. It can be a lot to keep track of, especially when some of the terms are used interchangeably.
So what’s the difference between heavy metal and hard rock?
- Heavy metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It’s characterized by distorted guitars, thundering drums, and screaming vocals.
- Hard rock, on the other hand, is a genre that developed in the mid-1960s. It’s characterized by a harder sound than other rock genres, but not as heavy as metal.
So while heavy metal and hard rock both have distorted guitars and thundering drums, metal is heavier and harder than hard rock.
