I’ve always been more into hip-hop, I just find it more relatable, plus I actually understand the lyrics, haha. Never understood the “you can’t even understand what they’re saying!” knock on it, I understand it perfectly, it’s more about understanding the dialect than actually discerning the words. Meanwhile, I pick up maybe 30% of the lyrics in a rock song because the words are being contorted through the vocals, via screaming or just bending the notes, etc.
All that said, I can get down with rock music. My favorite is probably pop-punk, honestly [pause for boos, lmfao], I just love teen angst and it’s rife with it😂 I also like a lot 90s alternative type stuff from my teenage years. Definitely appreciate a lot of the classic and progressive rock from the 60s and 70s as well. I can even get down with 80s hair metal, lmao. But I guess if you put a gun to my head, give me something lightweight, I’m not a purist, I’m good with Taking Back Sunday or goofy shit like Blink-182, lmao. I like poppy, anthemic hooks, and just generally has artists who don’t take themselves too seriously. I think since rock music isn’t my #1 I’m not snobby about it, whereas I’m pretty snobby about rap, and have much more discernible levels of like and dislike with artists. I’m sure no one will confuse Tom DeLonge with Stevie Ray Vaughn, lmfao, but I don’t know guitar well enough to really be offended by the disparity in skill and style. Just make fun songs I can sing along with, I don’t get deep with it like it’s some hallowed and solemn art form.

That kind of music just soothes your soul.
I reminisce about the days of old.
I like that old-time rock'n'roll.
My wife and I go out for a couple of rock cover bands and I'm amazed at the number of young people that enjoy music that came out before they were born. Maybe some of it like early Beatles that came out when their parents were in diapers.More than one.
New Wave (80's) Simple Minds, Duran Duran, dozens of others.
It's descended from Disco, just after a hot bath and new clothes.
It tends to have an Arena sound to it.
Progressive (Prog) symphonic Rock. Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Asia.Classic Rock, leaning heavily on the 60's, including The Doors, Stones, Led Zep, and The Who. My So is younger, and she leans more to the 80's. That's fine with me.
First, it's not rock, it's metal. Secondly, the above song is way too calm for my taste. I prefer viking metal above everything else:

I love this style of music, but those dudes have no talent whatsoever. The crap they're playing can't even be qualified to be a song.
(Unless it's just a warm-up exercise. In which case, carry on, fellas.)Rock-'n'-roll from the 70's. Rock-'n'-roll forever!!! 🎸
