What's the maximum number of words per chapter for your taste?

The average word count per chapter is said to be 3,000 to 5,000 words.

I'm writing a story that I'm hoping to get published one day, and I want some feedback.

1,000 to 2,000

2,000 to 3,000

3,000 to 4,000

4,000 to 5,000

I prefer shorter chapters, but I can read longer ones if there are enough page breaks

I'm good with any of them

In Microsoft word, 4000 words is 8 pages in font 12 times new Roman’s font, most chapters I read are at least 10 pages unless it’s a daily reflection or meditation book. But I know book font is different from essay font so that might equal 12 or 15 pages if your using book font.

Okay... that's my limit on a chapter. Less if Nietzsche Hume Bible or the Like...

250 words per page is a good rule of thumb. So, your 35-40 page chapter would be about 8,750-10,000 words.
