Why does Bethesda get away with buggy games but not other companies?

When most companies release buggy games, they'll be scrutinized by it even by many fanboys of them. Examples are Activision, Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar Games, 2K Games, Sega, Valve, Nintendo, CD Projekt Red, Atari, etc. But it seems that Bethesda is one of the few that is always given a pass by most of their fans. Not even Nvidia and Intel can get such protection from their fanboys smh.

Their excuse is that you can mod them to fix the bugs and because Bethesda makes open world sandboxes with a lot of content. But they're not the only company to make such games, and even Valve who supports modding in their games will still be shat on. These companies are never gonna change until consumers stop letting them get away with this shit by voting with their wallets.

The only games that I'll let that slide would be Fallout: New Vegas and TES II: Daggerfall for obvious reasons.

I've never played a buggy Bethesda game, but then I almost never play games right after release. I tend to play after several years when many bugs have been fixed, and with TES games an unofficial patch has been made.

I don't know what kind of bugs TES originally had, but I never thought they were as bad as some games I've played that literally were not even playable. I don't think I've played any Bethesda games other than TES.

There are many TES games, including many spin offs. And also that kind of attitude of expecting people to patch the game instead of Bethesda is why their games are super buggy. Even Bethesda themselves know that and just let modders do the work for them. Those other companies I'm sure get called out, but here you are doing exactly what I wrote in the question.

Also how long a game is out doesn't determine how buggy a game is. Skyrim SE still has bugs that go unnoticed by the makers of Unofficial Patch, Engine Fixes, and other major patch mods. People can still find glitches to extremely old games like SMB even to this day. Newer software and hardware such as Windows 11 and Core 12th Gen can introduce new bugs too.

When I read the patch notes for TES, the bugs don't seem nearly as bad as some games I've played. Maybe I just got unlucky with other games.

Personally I don't care about bugs. All games are going to have bugs. I only care if it's serious, especially if the game can't even be played properly, or in some cases can't be played at all.

TES games tend to be pretty high quality. My biggest complaint is the system requirements. That's true of a lot of games, but Bethesda really pushes it. I'm not even looking forward to TES6 because I know I won't be able to play it.

You're using whataboutism and corporate relativism like the guy above. Until people like you stop being so complacent, Bethesda will continue with super buggy games. I don't find RPGs with shit AI and dialogue, as well as repetitive fetch and kill quests as "high" quality. Don't expect TES VI to release anytime soon when Todd really wants Starfield to be a successful IP.

Bethesda only pushed the system requirements for Skyrim SE, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76; the only other game where it was not optimised in the past is probably Daggerfall cause they made Hammerfell and High Rock in that representative of their actual size in the lore.

All games have bugs upon release. I’ve played every Elder Scrolls game I suspect people overlook them because of how much content they have.

I only bought Morrowind, Oblivion, and New Vegas; Skyrim and Fallout 4 were gifted to me. I regret ever buying Morrowind cause it literally doesn't even detect my dGPU at all. And since Skyrim SE is a remaster, I expected Bethesda to fix it even more. But no, let's make a microtransaction store with cosmetic mods and keep the same bugs from 2011 original. If Bethesda at least officially endorsed and/or added these patch mods, it wouldn't be so bad.

Like for Valve, they'll eventually let mods be fully integrated into their games and even compensate people for it. Left 4 Dead 2 got a big update almost 2 years ago where many modders teamed together to make. Not only did that fix many bugs and balanced the PvP modes, it also brought a lot of content into the base game. And yes, even some existing mods were integrated into l4d2 as well. It did piss a lot of people off, and many bugs introduced by that update got fixed. The modders actually wanted to change l4d2 even more, but due to the huge backlash they no longer want to make major updates again lol. At least Valve had the foresight to stop the modders from modifying core game files and assets that can only be modified with C++ and other programming languages.

Seeing how Bethesda doesn't give a shit about patching Skyrim SE with bug fixes, and only endorses Creation Club mods and that stupid Anniversary Edition DLC, I've already decided to boycott them some time ago. So no, I won't ever buy or even ask to have any of their games be gifted to me ever again. Unless of course, they manage to defy the odds and not release super buggy games. Fallout 76 might be a lot better than at launch, but people have still reported it as being a mediocre MMO and not optimised well for PC.
