Why do people STILL think less of gamers in our current day and age?

I still keep running into this... i DO get that if someone spends every waking moment playing games ignoring their priorities and such... yes that is bad... but this is by no means the norm though i can assure you. most people who play video games do work, and do keep their priorities in check. I think people just have a stereotype in their brains when they think of gamers generally.

Anyways what do YOU think?

Because most people assume gamers are overweight, antisocial geeks with no lives outside of computers or consoles-

I mean they're not completely wrong... but still...

Joking aside, it's the same reason there are so many other negative stereotypes in the world: because people are judgement as hell. If you're different from others or like something someone else doesn't, you're instantly weird or an outcast. Whereas most gamers I know and play with are VERY intelligent, well rounded, have careers- heck, I play with doctors, nurses, teachers, IT support- all of whom game as a means to destress or have fun outside of real life.

If you met me in real life, you probably wouldn't know I was a gamer unless I told you. I'm also big into exercise so I'm definitely not the stereotypically gamer that's overweight or munches or junk while gaming.

People just need to stop judging others and let them lead their own lives. As long as what you're doing isn't hurting or negatively impacting others, let people kill virtual mobs and baddies in peace!

Unfortunately there are people who think less of them. They probably think it's immature to play video games or something like that. I don't know exactly what's going through their heads but that's my guess. I don't think much of it as long as those people aren't ignoring their priorities like you said. One of my cousins still plays video games. I even saw him playing a game yesterday with his girlfriend (who may actually be his ex). I think he just got a PS5 recently. I noticed that.

Because unfair or not, I think the majority on gamers, that I know, just sit for hours playing games, smoking weed, and snacking on junk-food, still living w/ their parents, have little to no ambition to better themselves or make the world a better place for others… The idea of the “fit” gamer who works in a professional career field, is socially adept, works out, lives on their own, and actually does something to help others… yeah, they exist, but that’s the exception not the rule.

Whether you like it or not, for most women, men like I described above are just not as attractive as a hard working men, who have social skills when it comes to women, and actually care about something other than their own selfish pleasure.

You really shouldn’t get upset at women who are only doing what you asked them to do and tell you why many women avoid guys who self-identify as gamers. Yes, there is a stereotypical “gamer”, and it may not be fair, but WE are the ones who date male “gamers”. We are the ones who see the same thing over and over again, guys who live with mom, have a part-time job and spend the rest of their waking hours sitting in front of a monitor playing games or watching TV.

You asked a woman “what if he was a professional, who worked out, and helped those less fortunate, etc…” she replied “I dont see how someone can do that and still have so many hours to play games.” I agree! A man like this, regardless of what he called himself simply is not a “gamer”, certainly not as most woman would think.

Stereotypes are wrong, nobody should judge someone JUST b/c he likes video games, and I try not to. But men with no ambition who still live w/ mom are just not husband material to most women! That in NO WAY makes me think they are “less-than”, it just tells me that they are not for me. There is someone out there for everyone. Why fixate on why women don’t think you are their type? Go out and look for women who DO think you are their type!

You know what, I sit to playing games as I sit for programming. The same level of concentration and the same level of mindfulness is required. Heck, even the position required is the same.

I can tell you that, programmers and gamers are the same, just the applications they use are different. Nothing else. And pretty much both are underrated publicly.

Hollywood lost money to gaming industry. Right now gaming industry is a gigantic mamoth that single handedly takes over movies, music, sports and porn industry.

I think if hollywood showed more gamers as winners and not loser nerds and their were more porn of gamers banging hot chick people would change their mind.

Yes, there probably is a stereotype that some people STILL think less of gamers in our current day and age.

The gamer skillset does develop hand-eye coordination and may employ different areas of the brain, like playing a musical instrument.

But I ABSOLUTELY refuse to accept Professional Gamers as ptofessional sports athletes! Professional Chess, Bridge, Poker or Pool Players have MORE in common with Professional Gamers!
