I didn’t see all 14 minutes, and maybe I’m biased from wanting to teach elementary, or because my kids are that age, but the creator of this video makes a very good point. Representation does matter, and black girls need to see that they can be beautiful and a princess too. Black men have been sports and entertainment heroes for a long time now, so that isn’t so radical. Richard Roundtree in Shaft comes to mind, Michael Jordan, Will Smith , Dave Chappelle, Denzel Washington, I don't know who is current now most of my references are old but I haven’t had a TV or gone to a movie in over a decade. The Williams sisters in tennis are the biggest names I can think of without researching. VP Harris is representing of course, though I would seek better representation if it were applicable. Biden doesn’t represent me. Halle Berry becoming a Bond girl is the highest grossing film role I can think of, but pop culture, again, isn’t my strong suit. It is awesome seeing their little faces light up when they see a mirror for themselves in popular entertainment. One of the most important concepts taught in library school is how the collection items should be a mirror for the users, and/or a window into another lived experience, and I hope to be able to provide that for all students in the future.

I teach now. For total of 6 days.
I been interning for last 2 years at a day care and elementary school
It's what my major is. Early childhood development.

I have my internship teaching certification as I’m so close to the end of grad school and there is a shortage of teachers in my field. I tried to get into the city school district where I am when they were 300 teachers short and no luck. There was a posting for multiple school librarians needed.

It's always good to see black and urban support but you ain't gonna like my opinion about this hahaha the issue is we don't need to replace characters I don't know why Hollywood can't just make another MOVIE for someone of color to star in and be just as big as the orginaland make it's own path. Instead of giving us HAND ME DOWN recycled movies already done Cause if it was the other way around we would be calling them culture vultures lol

So i don't support Hollyweird in their fake love for our people. All they wanna do is create a divide and keep a divide. But I'm not going to tell abuncha kids that or even tell my daughter that so good to see them all happy.

Exactly they need give us movies with orginal black characters to shine on and the more the kids are happy to see someone like them across the TV channel. I just wish they wouldn't use an orginal series to do it. Cause for the kids who don't see they will go to school to tell their friends Ariel is black and the other kid gonna be like no she's white and it's just one big racial divide all over again. Just like Hollyweird wants.

New original series are risky investments for publishers, especially in the modern hyper-polarized society. I would go see a good story, but lots of people would rather see an ok story that checks their demographic boxes. Eric July has a new comic out with a black lead, it looks good so far from the little bit it has been teased.

@Sixgunsound bruh did u not see how well "Black Panther" saled off the African culture or things like Welcome to America with Eddie Murphy these are just two orginal films that did very well by themselves. Their is no way you can't tell me orginal creations with black character's of their own won't sale out the box office lol they do pretty well Hollyweird just refuses because they rather create a racial divide in the US.

It seems that the producers themselves disagree because business always follows the money, and if there was a market they would cash in. I honestly never really understood it... also I never really understood why they did like different barbies, like Asian and fat, cause for me personally dolls were just dolls and I also never looked like the typical barbie myself but I never compared my ass to her or movie characters... but I understand that it's important for others and it's literally not hurting anyone to be considerate

Also when it comes to movies I honestly just don't care enough about the color, you could give me an all black belle, arielle or Cinderella and I wouldn't probably even notice, I would notice (but don't have a problem) with snow white tho cause the story literally talks about her snow white skin, blood red lips etc or Mulan as Chinese legend but in the end it's mainly the story and the storytelling for me

With all things I agree that representation matters, but I do not agree with changing the color/ or anything else just because we want people to be included. I vote that we make a entirely new version of it. Their are plenty of black hero's and villians that are just not being used anymore. It would be great to have more movies about us tho

Name a movie that has big production value for young girls that shows us as a beautiful desirable capable princess? Name a movie that hasn't given us the backup friend or servant to the beautiful white princess role. That's what i grew up watching.
We didn't get the we are special we can be beautiful. We were just always shown as the gee thank you for letting us be your friend or dull comedic back up.

Little kids just want someone to look up to. Want to see hey i can aspire to be that because they are amazing.

We got white people's dreams can come true, and we can be lucky to bask in their glory.

Best i got was princess and the frog. A poor little black girl who got lucky enough to find a prince and spent 90% of the movie as frog. Our princess couldn't even be represented as a human.

That one little girl is 3 and shocked to actually have a character to look up to that wasn't white.

We didn't have social media and all this discussion about race, but we all knew from movies.

Our parents told us we were beautiful and could be special but the world showed us we didn't deserve anything but to be poor or a sterotype.
We are just to be pushed aside and forgotten.
