Rings of Power has been awesome.
I keep trying to give She-Hulk the benefit of the doubt. But it'll smack you with cringe and preachy plotlines out of nowhere that they didn't bother to mix into the plot well.
I was hoping for more Deadpool style shenanigans but instead I'm being lectured to about "there are maybe 2 guys in the world who aren't assholes", and acting like that's a new trope, or even an empowering one. That would be fine if they could blend it well, but they basically cut the story to make narrate the point to the audience like some sort of PSA. "And what lesson did we learn, kids?"
It would also work better if the characters weren't strawmen for the issues. A guy literally saying "I'm going to go flirt with it". Like... nobody actually does that. But I figured it was just tongue in cheek caricature. Until even the good guy she dated was like "eh you look different. Remember. If men are good, they're probably unaccepting shallow bastards". Like it reeks of writer bitterness.
But the worst part is just that everyone is acting like we have some moral obligation to like it.
Rings of Power is way better, in my opinion. Though I wish they played Galadriel's ego as being as problematic as it is empowering. But yeah, Galadriel isn't just an elf, she's like the elf-est of elves. Her "above it all, holier than thou" attitude is basically the whole thing about the elves and why other races have so many issues with them.
And apparently the softer Elrond is closer to the books? I heard he was more optimistic in the books and they made him and angry nihilist in the movies. But even that worked because he's still an elf.
They played what I thought was going to be a racism lesson in the pub with that kid approaching a black elf (Arondir) saying "we will rise again", but then his superior made it clear that naw, the elves are a straight up occupation who hold a grudge across generations, so the frustration is valid, and Arondir is actually the one who doesn't want to blame them for their ancestors alliance to Morgoth.
I know there was some controversy around Disa being black, but that's tuff doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when they add diversity to a cast and then make tokenize them, making them infallible and always right. I don't think they're doing that too much here. Disa is quirky and has a very dwarf personality, the leader of the Harfoots is a grumpy old man. The queen of Numenor is paranoid and at least WAS racist AF against elves. It's about making the characters actually feel part of the culture and not infused with modernist ideals that are anachronistic.
Being an Amazon series, my standards were super low with regards to some of this stuff, but I can say I've been pleasantly surprised. And it kinda just feels like more LotR.
And don't get me started on House of the Dragon. That show has been awesome. Easily my favorite style of character complexity.
Equally as bad, for different reasons.
The third worst show of 2022, She Hulk: Attorney at Law, had years of comics to draw from, as well as actual good stories. It takes a special level of arrogance and lack of talent, to mess up She Hulk. She Hulk was many people's favorite female Marvel character for a reason, including myself. I've seen every episode of this show so far (on Putlockers) and this show is literally worse than Captain Marvel. Both are 0s out of 10s, but at least Captain Marvel was only 90 minutes long. Now I'm GLAD Alison Brie avoided this coat hanger abortion of a show. This is what they used to call in the late 2000's an Epic Fail.
The Rings of Power, on the other hand, is trickier, because Amazon and Jeff Bezos basically don't have the actual rights to Lord of the Rings. The Embracer Group and Warner Bros does. So the reason this show is so sh*t, is because legally, it's not actually Lord of the Rings. It's the snake oil of entertainment. Kinda like that equally sh*tty Resident Evil Netflix show, which was only two months ago in July! Or everything Alex Kurtzman and his crew of manchildren have done with Star Trek. Or Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams with Star Wars. This show, is almost quite literally "Lord of the Rings" in name only. Because it IS technically called "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." But yeah, in short, they don't actually have the rights to jack sh*t. I'm not even a huge Tolkien fan, by the way.
In short: She Hulk: Attorney at Law intentionally disrespects its fans and makes the worst thing possibly just to piss you off, while Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is just pure incompetence done out of desperation and because of legal issues. She Hulk is "The Last Jedi" and The Rings of Power is "The Rise of Skywalker."

I watched both, couldn't sit through she hulk, it is true that its just an anti-men show tbh, marvel jumps on plenty of bandwagons, one of which is that wave of feminism we got today, plenty of examples pointed out online.
Rings of power, I don't get the hate... I think its brilliant tbh. I find a lot of the hate its facing is due to the anti-female wave that's recently brought up, combined with a fanbase similar to star wars, that has its eyes set on the past. Unlike marvel I find it does a great job having the main character, a girl; without so much in your face, #fempower that marvel does. Galadriel's a chick, she's also bad ass, its left at that same as how Mandalorian did it. a lot of the 'lore' stuff that people are upset about is quite pathetic tbh, I do believe it comes from a place of hate, or spite.
To paint the genuine criticism of RoP as 'anti-female' and 'from a place of hate or spite' is frankly lazy.
I watched the entire season with my girlfriend over the last few nights, and even she (probably a bigger LOTR fan than I am) was flabbergasted by how, quote, boring and senseless it was.
LOTR has the biggest fanbase, and it also has one, if not the most, diverse and full backstory behind it. Peter Jackson even said he had no intention of putting any allegory into an already well-established backbone, and not straying from Tolkien's work. Look what his trilogy turned out to be...
50 million into each episode, and it's a complete and utter drivel. Amazon is pathetic, and I wouldn't be surprised if the show is cancelled.
@BruceJender uhhhh I get that, I disagree but I get it.
It’s not painting however, it’s the example of criticism I see most often with rop, any other forms of criticism are I believe valid cause it’s criticism, again I don’t agree with most of it tho I still enjoy the show. I would defo say things slow down quite a bit between episode 4-6 tbh which is quite the hefty amount.
I wouldn’t say a drivel probs more something to work on like 100% not perfect, like I said most criticism I see is: in my belief: unjustified n from hate (n nostalgic rose glass).
The Rings of Power isn't bad. It's not amazing either, but it was never likely to live up to the expectations people had of it, based on the movies and the amount spent on it.
It's the same story with House of the Dragon - it's not as good as Game of Thrones, and it was never going to be, but it's still a pretty decent show in its own right (it's also fun spotting places I know - took my dog for a walk to Driftmark yesterday...).
On the other hand, it would be no exaggeration to say that She-Hulk looks like the single worst show ever created.
I haven’t watched either, but i’m betting She-Hulk. Marvel is a complete shit show at this point. The MCU has always shit on Hulk, so there’s no way they could make a decent show of anything to do with it. I’d rather read that Feige and all his cronies died in a fire than watch anything else those clowns produce.
Wasn’t a big enough fan of the LotR movies to give a crap about the show.
Haven't seen the rings of power but she-hulk is filled with so much man hate woke garbage but I watch it anyways because I do want to see how it'll effect the rest of the MCU.
Where is there man hate?
@SmokinAces2000 all they do on the show is flame men, in the very first episode she tells the hulk he doesn't know what it's like because reasons why she has to control her emotions, mean while the hulks character has been dealing with trauma his entire life. He was afraid of his dad who killed his mom and was chased by the government for most of his adult life and all the other stuff he had gone through but they basically say nope none of that shit is valid being a woman is the only one who's traumas and experiences matter. It's shit like that that ruins a show, plus the fact someone criticized the cgi on Twitter and the director said it's because of misogyny. Every single episode of the show says something about men bad women are boss. Even the latest episode focuses on a guy called mister immortal and him being afraid of conflict but he keeps marrying and then killing himself to avoid it.
I can kinda see what you’re talking about with her telling hulk that he doesn’t have to control his emotions but Mr immortal is pushing it
she-hulk is actual dogpiss, rings of power actually has potential and kept me interested thus far
She-Hulk, hands down. Rings of Power has issues, but is at least watchable, even somewhat entertaining if you ignore the liberties taken with the source material. She-Hulk is just irredeemable garbage.
Rings of Power is finally starting to come together
Based on the commentaries I've seen, She-Hulk.
They're both bad and look like 10 years old's wrote the scripts. No real effort to try and write something based on the true source material. I have not watched either of them very much.
haven't seen rings of power, but i can't imagine anything being worse than she hulk
Haven’t seen rings of power but she hulk is borderline trash, I like many other are really only watching it to know what’s going on in the mcu and of course for daredevil
That's like asking "would you rather sit on a dick and eat a cake, or sit on a cake and eat a dick?"
I’d rather sit in a dick and eat a cake.
@annabananna
Yeah but I mean, you're a woman, so obviously.
Would you rather have penises for fingers or an asshole for a mouth?
Penises for fingers. An asshole for a mouth would be pretty smelly lol
@annabananna none of those 10 peningers would do anything you want them to do anymore... lmao
each with their on mind and will
I might need coupons for a hand diaper instead then!
@annabananna let me tell you... mornings would be madness...
like a laser party... lmfao, I'll just stop talking
😂 😂
@NathanDavis peningers 😭😭😭
@Vendela lmfao...
She-Hulk is actually a show? I thought that was just an internet joke.
Both shows are ass
Thankfully I can FF through most of the shit
Lmao she-hulk failed miserably, the feminist were hyping up as usual but RIP 😂😂
In fact BOTH FAILED MISERABLY
I’ve never seen a SheHulk I would like to see at least one show
I haven't seen She-Hulk and really have no desire to watch it.
The Rings of Power is good. Never seen She-Hulk.
I haven't seen either of them.
I don't know which has a good storyline?
