    So much was happening in the 60s. Music and culture evolved dramatically. I was fascinated by all that was going on, from the civil rights struggle, women's lib, the Viet Nam war, innovations in music, hippies, peace and love, and sex drugs and rock & roll, to car culture. The U. S. economy was thriving and there were good jobs.

    But I turned 16 in 1970. I had AMAZING fun during that decade. There was an incredible amount of freedom compared to today. Police didn't look or act like robocops. There were no digital records. Your medical history was between you and your doctor. Your auto insurance wasn't even notified if you got a driving citation.

    My friends and I partied like Vikings, went to hundreds of rock concerts, surfed, snow skied, backpacked, and went on adventures all the time. It was even easy driving in and out of Mexico. And if you wanted to fly somewhere, all you had to do go the the airport, buy ticket, and hop on a plane. No TSA bullshit.

    So the 70s were the best, from my point of view.

      @leighbee. It was. 1964 through the 70s. And I saw every band live, some of them several times. I saw some of the most famous bands ever when they were brand new opening for someone else.

      60's because of all the free movements and moon landing.70's fashion, music and political changes. 80's definitely the music. Late 90's music, clubbing, the end of the century etc. I can't pic on you see, they are all amazing in their own way!

    This is not even a close call. If the question is asking which decade a person lived through was the favorite, then for me it was the 1980s, hands down. There is a slight asterisk over that in that I loved my high school and college years - I never understood those people who said their teen years were so awful - and for me, high school began in 1977 and went till 1981. (College was 1981 to 1985.)

    Still, the 80s were an amazing time. They started a little bumpy but the mood of the country was upbeat, the popular music - and this I say as a guy who otherwise grew up around, and enjoyed and still enjoy, jazz and classical music - was outstanding, and in my personal life I had my first serious girlfriend, great friends, my first car, the list goes on.

    Plus, I have to admit, I became interested in politics beginning in the mid-1970s and when Mr. Reagan came into office, I was delighted. We've not had a President as good or effective since Mr. Reagan - both in terms of his policies and in terms of his personality - and it shows. Also, it made for some funny moments. My ambition in high school was to become editor of the editorial section of the school newspaper.

    Well, I pulled it off and frankly, the whole editorial section - as even the teacher who sponsored the paper admitted - was my section. Although he had to draw the line when I wrote a piece about the Warsaw Pact. (No joke.) Suffice to say, that one did not get published and to this day I know - just know - I would have gotten the Pulitzer had it been. Ah, the "might have beens..."

    On the lighter side, I got my first serious girlfriend. We lived in a small town - at least it was in those days, now it is an outlying suburb - and my gfd's house was on a lake. That made for some great parties in the summer. I also made other great friends - including several of my high school teachers - with whom I am still in touch to this day. (In fact, two of my college friends children are my godchildren.)

    Suffice to say, I could go on. Both in terms of my personal life and in terms of just the general times, the 80s were a great decade. To be sure, you can romanticize things a bit too much and there were less sterling moments - this is, as always in human life, a matter of weighing the goods and the bads - but add it all up and the 80s, at least in terms of the years I have been on this planet - and to be sure I have had other great individual years here and there - were amazing.

      @Guardian45 mostly music...

      and just to name one band... Radiohead

      and the internet was not so much of an influence back then either so creativity was a bit more "organic" in a sense

      movies and TV were definitely much better... you didn't have multiple sequels, prequels, recycled movies or bad remakes of absolutely everything done before

      @Guardian45 the 80's is very similar to the 90's, i was born in the mid 80's but the 90's got that taste of switching between the old era and the new era...
      It's like the 60's till the 80's are in a wagon and the 90's is what connects this wagon to the other wagon which holds the 2000's till our the present day...
