Why do LoTR fans get so defensive whenever magic is brought up?

I have a MyTake planned where I basically explain how magic in Middle Earth works but I'll summarize part of it here.

When you're talking about "Magic," what you're describing is a certain level of "allowance" given to certain characters by Eru Illuvitar (God) depending on a variety of factors.

That's the gist of it.. and it's simple.

But for whatever reason there are a lot of fans who seem to want to make it more complicated than it is.

Specifically, there are people who try to make elven magic out to be "advanced technology."

It's not. Elves can do the things they can do because they have a strong connection to the divine. Again.. it's a very simple magic system when you boil it down.

But people still want to make it like how it is in Thor where the lines between magic and technology are blurred to the point of chronic migraines.

Why do you want it to be messy? Lol.
