Like, apart from the fact that she sings to the kids, she's quite cold, distant, and self-righteous. I mean, I liked the movie when I was a kid, but watching the movie again, I just had a different perspective.

I loved that character, but you have to remember that the first book was written 88 years ago and that the first movie came out in 1965. The character reflects not only those times but also the upper middle class in Great Britain at the time of its writing. Not saying you have to like it but I think the context and the two time periods matter very much.
Her actual job is to force their father to be a real daddy to them. Within the context of Edwardian England she's downright warm and cuddly.

How dare you? Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins is a classic... enjoyed by all.
She does love herself way too much. Lol. Always complimenting herself and talking highly about herself.
Yeah, not a fan of her either Lol
I see the movie years ago when it first came out. It's really hyped up back in the sixties. I wouldn't see it today.
1. What’s wrong with singing to the kids? (Especially in a MUSICAL. 🤣)
2. How does she feel cold or distant?
3. She’s a bit cheeky,(which is part of her charm), but “self-righteous”? How?
I liked the movie and I still love the movie. Juile Andrews and Dick van Dyke were superb!
Not really, but it wasn't a film that I was a fan of.
I'd have to watch it again. I'd only seen it once when I was a kid.
I haven't seen it since I was about 5 so, it doesn't bother me at all. Why should it? besides, I've seen her tits!
Nope I grew up with Mary poppins on vhs and still love it to this day 🙂👍
I think you are supposed to.
I have actually never watch this movie
The only character I hated was the idiot suffragette wife.
Never read the books so I can't speak for the actual original but I like the classic Disney movie version.
I just wanna chitty chitty bang bang a young Julie Andrews
Sound of music is better.
Nanny McPhee was a better Mary Poppins.
No just think it's not for today's time's
There is something creepy about it.
