Do you think Dale in The Green Mile deserved what he got?

Percy was a POS that got what he deserved and I use to feel sorry for Dale until I learned the lore of him. He raped and killed a young girl then killed more by arson trying to cover it up. I was 50/50 with liking and hating him after that. What's your thoughts?
