So You Think You Can Drum?

Last night I met Broadway percussionist Monica Del Valle opening rehearsals for the Los Angeles tour of Wicked the Musical.

In this video she's playing a rehearsal with the Broadway touring company in Mexico a few years back. There are monitors above her where she can see the conductor and what's happening on stage.

No, my drumming career is spectacular but short lived and hardly worth talking about. (It involves playing on stage with the Utah Symphony, yes it was in front of an audience, and is not nearly as great as it sounds)

I know the basics of drumming, and I can play simple rhythms, but I am not a drummer.

Probably if I had a real drum set and practiced. I used the drums on Guitar Hero years ago and it seemed easy with the two symbols, 3 drums, and the bass drum/foot pedal. The drum set is much closer to a real instrument experience than the fake guitar was with plastic buttons.

One of the things I wish I could of done when I picked up a musical interment was drums, but I settled for the brass trumpet instead.

Anyone can drum. It's the instrument you play when you can't play anything else. It's literraly just banging sticks on a drum
